Bowsprit (Moved From Pub)

I have a Macgregor 25 and have been fixing it up (as most everybody else does with their mac 25's too)...and I have been toying with the idea of putting a bowsprit on her, --and possibly an anchor rode "well" in the bow just above the V berth, --(since a bowsprit just begs a permanent anchor with winch.) Of course I would want to move the jib furler out to the tip of the bowsprit and add on a new bow pulpit for comsetic reasons... Do you guys think a bowsprit would be a graceful addition to my mac 25 or would it mess the artistic lines up too much and make the boat look clunky? I would appreciate anybodys thoughts on this subject....
Thanks, Greg Ellis. Plano, Texas (Dallas)

I think if you could do it and make the work look nice, then it would be pretty cool. You might even use the U connector as the anchor for the bobstay, though it may require a spreader; or you could install one of those temporary ones that mounts on the bow and doesn't use a bobstay. If you end up putting a sprit on, you could just add another foresail and run a cutter rig instead of moving the existing forestay up.

The front forestay could be run from the masthead, though this may require other standing rigging modifications depending on the loads.

You might want to look at Highlander's mods for his four headsail rig on a Mac 19. He used an extended bow pulpit; don't know if it was technically a "bowsprit" but it served the same purpose I think.

I looked at highlanders mod...I am not sure I could handle all the sail he has going on...its pretty cool though....I am still leaning toward a bowsprit...but will give it another year to percolate.....I still want to wait and see what other guys are doing.....

As you may have noticed, I edited your topic title to reflect the correct form and spelling of "Bowsprit". Just a suggestion, but you probably want to use the terms "bowsprit" and/or "bow sprit" instead of "Bow Sprite" in your searches for information. I think that your results will be much more satisfactory.

I'd love to have one of these on my bow for holding/mounting an anchor like I see on lots of other boats. However, I do not have the capability to make my own.
Do I just tow the boat to a marina and ask for a quote to do the mod? I'm not sure how to go about it.

I think your better bet is to draw it up, or copy Highlander's, and bring it to a fabrication shop and have them make it for you.

Excuse my naive question...but do you find fabrication shop in the yellow pages..or would it go by some other name?
