I have just upgraded (at least I think so) the forum to a new bbs system and would appreciate Those that have registered going to the site and checking that their stuff is OK. I seem to have lost a couple of members from the database, so if you are missing, just re-register. More upgrades to follow, so play with it and let me know how it works/doesn't work for you. Any suggestions on improvements will be entertained.

The Lifeboat is used as an emergency backup to Heath's board and is piggybacked on one of my domains on a separate server. In case Heath's board goes down, or encounters difficulty, you may login to the Lifeboat and receive the latest news on the status of this board. The Moderators and Admin of this board will monitor the Lifeboat during such times and will render assistance. There is also a chat room available on the Lifeboat.

If you have tried to logon to the Lifeboat recently and received error messages, I have resolved the issues. They were brought on by a recent upgrade to my hosting servers that changed the access to the database used by the board. (Thanks to Kevin for the heads-up)

The Lifeboat is a free service and is not supported by advertising in any way and I do not receive any benefit, other that the satisfaction of offering a service to this community. The Lifeboat is not intended to be competition to this board and is only there for emergencies, or casual use.

Please feel free to register and bookmark the site. You will never be pestered, nor will your email address be sold, or used for nefarious purposes. If you have not logged in for a period of time, please do so and update your profile. Many of you have old email address that are no longer valid. There may be a time that we need to use the Lifeboat to send out emails to you when this board's database is unavailable. It is also a good idea to make sure that your profile is up to date on this board.

Looks good to me. Only thing I could see is that some of the threads are 'dead' - the thread header is there but when you click on it, it appears to have been deleted.

Hadn't noticed that. Some things did get lost in the translation. I had to manually edit the database to get the avatars back and a couple of members seemed to have etherized. I might be able to recreate the missing threads, I still have the old database in backup form. I'll check them out and if they seem important, I'll see what I can do. Thanks, Kevin.

Hmm.. can't find the dead threads now, so perhaps I caught you in mid-upgrade.

I do note that I don't seem to be able to access the Moderators forum anymore, although I am a member of the "Moderators" group, according to my profile.

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be because of one of the following reasons:

1. Your account has either been suspended or you have been banned from accessing this resource.
2. You do not have permission to access this page. Are you trying to access administrative pages or a resource that you shouldn't be? Check in the forum rules that you are allowed to perform this action.
3. Your account may still be awaiting activation or moderation. (Resend Activation Code)

You are currently logged in with the username: 'kmclemore'

I requested a new activation code... not sure if that was the right thing to do, but there you go.

Good. As I'm sure you are aware from Heath's upgrade, the devil is in the details. If anyone else sees a problem with the Lifeboat, please post it here or on the Lifeboat site.

Great idea for keeping these needed mods and info safer. You mention a chat room on the site. I couldn;t see where that might be on your site.

There are times a chat can really help when trying to work out bugs on a project one might be having.

Sorry about the chat room, Gary. It disappeared with the upgrade and the old one that I was using is not compatible with the new board, because of the database structure. New chat system is on the way however, so check back in a week, or so.

OK, as promised the Chat room is now open at The Macgregorsailors Lifeboat site. Took a little bit of engineering, but I finally got it integrated into the forum database. This means that you will have to be logged into the Lifeboat forum to enter the chat room. Should be a little more secure that way.

• Note: You must be logged into the Lifeboat and not just here. The databases are separate.

For the newer members here, the Lifeboat is just another forum that I maintain for use in case this board goes down. Members are encouraged to check in there for information on the main board and if you are having trouble with it. This was the case with the last major upgrade of this board.

Feel free to use the chat room at any time and let me know if you have any problems. If there is enough interest, maybe we can get Heath to put one here,

Site worked good for me, logged on no problem using prior ID and the threads i tried worked just fine.

Nothing I seem to do gets me in. My old password does not work, and I tried using the function if I forgot my password. I tried re-registering, but I'm told that my selected username is being used by someone else. I guess that would be me?

I have a similar problem. Couldn't login, requested new password and then could not login using that one after activation?
