Much as I love my
, it would never pass the strict regulations of the Western Australian maritime authorities [ Department of Transport and Infrastructure] [ Yes! I know, a mouthful] . I have been through that exercise with them in my previous charterboat [ built by one of the world's most famous marine architects...and for himself...] and although they eventually passed it, they bent over backwards to try and prove it unseaworthy. And after that gave it a certificate for so few passengers that the business was unviable... Do I sound a bit bitter...sadly yes.
"THEY" weould require that the boat be built totally under their watchful eye, the whole process...'THEY' refuse to license COMPLETED HULLS...and I do not think the
would pass their stability test. Its just too tender.

p.s. I'm still searching my files for a photo...
I found it...

KAREN...built by Len Randell [ sadly now decd. ] for himself...to cruise the full coast of Western Australia...and they reckon it was not good enough...then they releneted and said....O/K but only 6 passengers...in a 40 foooter...???

My friend has a 26m on City Island (Long Island sound) which he has used to ferry passengers across the sound for dinner etc. and sailing adventures. In N.Y. you would have to be a certified captain to "legally" charter passengers for hire.

I am talking about simple boat hire in lakes or so...
Is there someone hiring Mac's?
Anywhere...
For a day or a weekend?

further to my grizzle about the authorities in Western Australia being a bit ANTI chartering...unless its on a 3,000 foot multi million dollar palace... exaggerating of course...I have taken and printed all the details of those two charter companies mentioned by Finn...I am going to show them to the guys at "Marine & Harbours", the old name for the marine section of the Dept. of Planning and Infrastructure...AAHHHH..what a mouthful...
And see what they say. I'm sure they have a black book with my name in it...
I have the boat, I have the qualifications...what I do not have is sensible authorities...

O.K. so you expected beauty as well?

I don't have one close by but if you look in the classifieds of "SAIL" magazine there is somone in the Florida who rents out their cottage and it comes with the use of their 26X.

Hi there, C130...how are you coping with the London weather...Its way too cold for me...Here in the West, we have had a week of strong S.E / S.W. winds, caused by a cyclone up north...O.K with a crew, but a bit much solo.

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M use as charter ?
i dont know how c130 is getting on with the weather but its really messed things up here
ive lost about 2000.00 gb pounds in revenue at a time when im feeling the effects of the credit crunch.
I was going to work on the boat yesterday,i took my new mast off of the truck, after wiping the frost and snow off it,carried it over to the boat,i had shoes on which was a bad move(cold feet) and my hands felt like ice,so i decided to wait untill it warms up a little
,i had a job to do on the roof of the house but that one can wait
still we are not having it as bad as those poor folks down in the South of Oz,the rats who are deliberately starting those fires,do not have a punishment fit enough for their crime coming to them.We are seeing picures of people whos homes are being destroyed, the one where the guys were armed with their garden hoses just about summed up their desparation

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M use as charter ?
Actually I am currently at a conference in Oberammergau, Germany (Bavarian Alps). There is about 10-12 inches of snow on everything. It is very beautiful...my hotel room looks over the river and the mountains and everything is so clear and crisp.
I left the dirty snow of London (total of around 8-10 inches last week) for the beautiful mountain, country snow of Bavaria.
I really like Germany.
Jim
But, I like the sailing in Florida even better...
