Roger MacGregor has started to purchase motors O.E.M. That means lower prices. The E-Tec 60hp is now factory installed, no longer using the 50hp (same or near same price due to volume). A MacGregor factory tech can install a motor on a Mac 26M in less time needed by even a certified Evinrude tech because the holes are already drilled, the pedestal is installed after the controls are in and the same work is done over and over again. Each installed motor is test run hooked up to a laptop, adjusted by the Evinrude software and the warranty registered over the internet The new price of $6,995 includes correct prop, wiring harness, shifter, control cables, power cable, fuel line, 6 gal tank and factory installation. I have tested many outboard motors and believe the E-Tec 60hp is the best choice. Now it costs less than most others, not more than. If anyone needs it, I will send you a DVD on the E-Tec, just E-mail me. Just Truth in Talking/Blathering, I was once a dealer for brand XX, then for Evinrude selling the E-Tec. Busy now with MacGregor I am no longer a motor dealer. Not as much bias as before or would that be better spelled BS. Any way: the prop is bigger, the engine service is needed only once every three years and the boat will go better at lower power setting than with other motors or faster wide open than any 50 or 60.

Smart move on Roger's part. OTOH, the Etec 60 can be had for about $5,500 online. But by the time you factor in all the controlls, accessories, prop, freight and installation, $7k is quite reasonable. Mine ran a bit over $7K with everything mentioned. This was in 2004 and that was 50 HP. Sure wish it was 60.

I mean heck, drill 4 holes, install 4 bolts, calk, cable hook ups, a wire here a wire there.....

Factoring in your call to your wife before closing and the massive price reduction from my fear you'd walk, how much do you owe me?

Steve, $7000 for 2 MPH faster than a 50 HP( read Duane's post in "New engine's") Hardly worth it. Remember all the cracks the x was getting in the transum when someone installed a 60HP a few years back? The boat takes a lot of abuse in the water and adding more weight back there without reinforcement is asking for it. I remember Bill at Macgregor saying putting a bigger engine than a 50HP on the X was like putting a V8 on a VW. The 2000 X is only worth about $10,000 now and you would be giving away a new engine if you bought a new M which the 60 HP is factory approved.

Geoff, You forgot to mention that you happened to have a buddy with an engine crane you were able to borrow. Details, details. If I attempted an engine self-install, I would be the proud owner of a Mac-submarine :D

Yes, I have big engine envy.

True.....

I suppose I should also factor in the copious beer consumption by Highlander as payment for his vast knowledge and experience.

I must admit I was bit concerned when he had a beer in one hand and a hole saw in the other...... :?
