This post was inadvertently posted in the Mac Mods section and I have reposted it here for the member in question.

I would like to upgrade to two twelve gallon fuel tanks on my 26X, however, I find that Tempo brand tanks are no longer made. Does anyone know if the Moeller 12 gallon tank will fit without major modification. I called Blue Water Yachts in Seattle to ask this question and they did not know.

Skydivur,
I don't know about the 12 gallon Moeller, but for what it's worth; 10 minutes of file work, and two 6 gallon OMC tanks will fit very nicely on each side. I disconnected my oil injector, so oil tank location isn't an issue.

there are several brands of 6 gallon tanks that will fit in the rear next to each other creating 12 gallons on each side, 24 gallons total.
the benefit is that they can be removed.
- you can rotate fresh gas
- maybe this weekend you only need 12 gallons and extra storage space on one side or the other
- you can get the cheapest price on gas at you local gas station vs the expensive fuel at the marina dock

here's one type:

this is the type that I use...

The stock X fuel locker opening has at least a half inch top and bottom that can be safely removed so a tank with cap and fitting attached can be easily removed. I think taking away any more might compromise the structural strength or the seal which prevents fuel or fumes from getting below or in the liner.
However, for the reasons already mentioned, I recommend getting multiple fuel tanks. Again, they are: lighter weight to carry from cheaper fuel sources, flexible storgage based on current need so fuel remains fresh, redundancy in case a tank has a problem with water, dirt, leaks, etc, and better overall performance if ligher weight for the journey is achieved because unnecessary fuel is not being carried.

What are the brands of the fuel tanks you are using. They look good and seem to have a good fit. I see that you did enlarge the locker for them, did you have to cut all around?

Your photo is great, Bob T. But it's not quite informative .... :x

Where did you buy them? What brand? What make and model? What's the stock number, at what retailer?

Now THAT would be useful!

the first one's are difficult to source. here's a link where they're Out-of-Stock...http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/TEM/TEM720040.html
the one's on the bottom are from Bass pro Shops. here's a link where they can be found today...Moeller Neptune Topside Marine Fuel Tank

Thank you! That's perfect!

I followed your link and found they're pretty reasonable in cost ... and "in stock".

Looks like you cut the under-seat opening wider to fit two of them side-by-side (13" wide each).

(Now my only question is to myself: Do I really feel the need for more than the 12 gallons I'm carrying now?)

DāBob, you da man!

FYI...that picture is not my X, it's someone else from this site.
in my set-up w/ the Moeller-Neptune tanks...i DID NOT do any cutting. that is, the tanks squeeze in as-is.
also, i don't use a strap.

(Now my only question is to myself: Do I really feel the need for more than the 12 gallons I'm carrying now?)
it's a personal choice for those of us that go to places where 24 gallons are needed (i.e. Lake Powell far from no where, or the 60 mile one-way trip & into the wind from Oceanside to Catalina, etc.).

Bob,

Is this the tank you have side by side with no cutting required?

that's the animal...
as stated above, that picture of the 2 tanks on the X is from someone else on the website.
however, my X has the same 2 tanks w/out strap. they fit (squeeze) in w/out any cutting.
