Hi all
This has been answered before (but I can't find it using search) but I want to upgrade my 97 X to the larger one found on the newer models. Has anyone done this? Also where does one get the valve from (esp Aussie readers).
Thanks in Advance

You are limited to the size hole behind the valve into the tank unless you want to run the risk and widen the hole.

Re: Upgrading 26X 1997 Ballast gate Valve
I have a 98, so mine already has the larger one. I bought the boat about 7 yrs ago and the previous owner had bought a replacement valve but not replaced it yet. The boat has been slipped in salt its whole life, and about a year later, the rod coroded and broke off. I found the replacement, and changed it out. Well, last year it failed again and I had to buy a new one. BTW, for those of you who don't know, the valve is an off the shelf ordinary gate valve used on camper sewage holding tanks and available at most any RV dealer.
The original valve and the one supplied by the PO, had a gate that was made of stainless. The one I recently bought has a plastic gate. Don't know if it is because its plastic, but now this one slowly lets water in when the ballast tank is empty. The other day on the BEER cruise I motored w/o ballast to a secluded beach with a large tidal pool and beached her for a few hours for lunch. The tank filled up with water and I was stuck. (Usually, I have the last laugh when others see a sailboat this close to the beach.)
Anyway, I asked the store (Camping World) if one with a stainless gate was available, and was told that they have been plastic for years now.
Maybe someone with an M could tell us if their gate is plastic or not.
