Some of you might remember this boat from last year. He dropped the price $2000. I am thinking I would be retarded to not take it. It would need the barnacles scraped off the bottom. How difficult is it to bottom paint it afterwards? Do you leave it in the trailer or do you put it on stands somehow?

Bought new in 2002. 26 foot power sail. Enclosed head, combination furnace stove, 2 sinks, sleeps 6 with 1 king size and two queen size beds.
Bimini cover for cockpit. VHF radio, fish/depth finder, Coast Guard Package. 30 horse Nissan 4 stoke outboard, sails and trailer. Many extras not mentioned here. This boat has only about 200 hours use on it. Many extras.

Sounds like a great deal.

You could pay a yard to scrape and paint the bottom. I've done it before and it's not fun. I used those sanding blocks that "melt" as you use them and smell like rotten eggs. I'm not sure how to paint where the trailer sits but I'm sure if you search you will find someone who does.

I did the bottom job on my "X" which was in good shape. A friend did his "X" successfully which had numerous blisters. Both jobs were done OFF the trailer, using a lift system and blocks. Center boards were removed in order to do correctly, and get better access into the C.B. cavity for "inside" cleaning and paint.
We keep our "X" boats in a slip full time -- salt water -- no problems.

Doing a bottom job is a hefty chore--something I wouldnt want to attempt with the boat on the trailer.

The price sounds like a good deal -- but maybe a surveyor (or a professional) would be a wise suggestion concerning the barnacles.

I think that it would be unnecessary to get a surveyor on this boat. I have known this guy for a few years now and he is trustworthy. Found out the barnacles have already been scraped. His health is crap right now unfortunately and the boat has not left his yard in a few years. It needs some cleaning up and a few cosmetic things taken care of but it is good to go other than that. I have looked at it and the price is unbelievable for the boat.

Sounds like a good deal. I won't tell you what I paid for mine then same year as yours.
There can't be too many problems with the boat apart from the engine.
Antifouling a 26 ft boat is a walk in the park. If you can get it off the trailer onto some logs you can roll from one side to the other. Just do one side at a time.

I painted the bottom of my boat this spring on the trailer. Jack up the front to clear the bunks. Do those sections. Remove the jack, then prop up the back and raise the trailer tongue. The stern will clear the back bunks. Do that part.

Not fun, but it wont kill you, unless you inhale the fumes.

thats got to work out at close to $27000.00,macs look like they are selling well over here,must be down to their low cost to run,the dealers are not making many new boat sails but second hand boats are getting hard to find.

I just repaired my antifouling this year. Used a quart of micron covered up all the spots that needed it and continued on till the quart was used up. Did it on the trailer, ignored the parts of the hull which were on the bunks. It sure was an easy job...time will tell!
