Does any one have sources for fuel tank tie down straps - i don't have time for mail order - i would like straps that are mounted to the cockpit with self tapping screws and some kind of plastic mount or anchor? i have 1 12 gal tank and 2 6 gal tanks

Try local marinas and / or motorsports stores. Some motorcycle shops carry a PWC line and may sell boating supplies.

Most Walmarts in areas where boating is popular have a marine / boating section that you may look into, as might mom & pop hardware stores. Lowes hardware stores have a dock & marine hardware section, as well as a trailering / towing section.

RV battery tie down straps should also work fine.

are we required to vent and ground our "permanent tanks"? I have come across a definition that anything we cannot lift and move easily is perm and perm requires vent and ground - i do not recall ever reading about that here on the forum.

BTW isn't it true that Blue Light is faster than White Light?

Would appreciate a post on what you finally do with your tanks...how you plumb them to the engine and how you strapped them down. I have a permanently installed 12-gal that has a double strap. It is "hard plumbed" to the engine and is hard wired for fuel guage. But I am considering adding 2 x 6-gal in the future. Just not sure how I want to plumb these to the engine and strap them in. But they are low on my priority list for now.

West Marine has them if they are local to you of course.

You could easily fab these from hardware supplies of 1 inch webbing and stainless brackets too. Use lots of 5200 on the washers when you penetrate the fuel locker so you cant leak water or gas into the aft berth down below. Make a maintenance note to inspect each season.

I recall somewhere (Canada perhaps) that a 12 gallon tank is considered permanent due to its size/weight.

I dont know how you could effectively vent an or fuel locker - a ground strap would be pretty easy to put on though. I guess I would sneak a round electrical connector under a screw on the pickup mount. Another item to be put on the annual maintenance list.

The two 12 gallon tanks on my 26M have a vent on top, which is part of the filler cap. My problem with this is that the vent leaks when sailing heeled. If I close the vent, then the pressure builds up inside the tank on a hot day and the fuel leaks out of the front supply connection. Any suggestions?
B.T.W.; yes, the open tank storage area under the cockpit seat is considered vented unless it has been sealed.
