Anybody know of any unhappy Mac owners?

So as I was cruising around on the internet, it occured to me that I couldn't remember seeing any reviews/posts of any owners that ended up not liking their Macgregor. The only poor reviews/posts seemed to be from the non-Mac owners. I was just wondering if anyone had known of someone that had gotten a Mac and ended being dissapointed with it. Seems like most of the folks who ended up getting a Mac did their homework for long time before purchasing one and would do so again in a heartbeat.

I seem to recall a few over the last couple of years that came on this website and complained about the Mac. But mostly I think it was issues with their specific Mac or issues with their specific dealers. Not necessarily issues with the Mac in general.

I have been very happy with my Mac26X until I sailed the Gulf Islands this summer....
The Mac did everything I expected, darn it.

sailing to wind surrounded by Beneteau 30+ and others really gave me a feel for what a true sailboat can do in consistant winds. On the other hand my sailing Uncle no longer looks down his nose at the Macgregor especially when we stayed out a lot longer than he thought was prudent and then I dumped ballast and ran us home.
I concur that without doing ones homework soemone could be disappointed with the Mac if all they really wanted was a day -sailer (no overnights and no need for speed)

It takes me too long to rig the boat in far away places because it attracts too many onlookers asking too many questions. Most are interested in its' trailering capabilities and how fast will it go with 60HP on the transom.

Or if they wanted a live-aboard ... or if they wanted to cross oceans ... in short, if they were trying to get the Mac to do things it wasn't designed to do. Was anyone trailering home their big Beneteaus? (Or should that be "Beneteaux"?)
I would be unhappy racing Bossa Nova, trailing at the back of the pack. I would be unhappy, scared and probably seasick, trying to sail her to Bermuda. And I would be all kinds of unhappy if I had to move aboard her and make her my only home.
But she does what I bought her to do - and I AM happy sailing away the afternoon, coming into a quiet cove, setting the anchor and opening a brewski before supper. And STILL happy the next morning, watching the sunrise as I eat my breakfast, wrestling up the anchor, then ghosting away under my gennaker in the light morning breeze. I'm happy I can keep her in "dry storage," where a wet slip for a similar-size boat would cost more per year than I paid for my fancy new trailer. And I'll be happy to lower the mast and take her traveling, when the time comes I can do it.
One day, I may be ready to sail away on an ocean-rated cruiser like a Cabo Rico. Till I'm ready to cross oceans and make my boat my full-time home, though, my humble Mac will do what's important for me - she'll get me out sailing.

Crossing from another post...
"...... Roger's next 70 now under cdesign/construction does have positive floatation! And yes, it will have water ballast! - Mike Inmon"
Mike...
When you say that - I have these visions of a very big trailer, and a motor that's a whopper... will it plane??

Trailer? Naaaahhh ... Roger will put strap-on wheels under the rudders and a tractor-trailer hitch under the bow. Kenworth tow vehicle will be $35,000 extra.
What I want to hear about is the single-hander's package.

Yes - I am an unhappy Mac

owner! I am unhappy because it's almost the end of August and I have not even gotten my boat into the water yet because of the terrible wet weather in the North East and personal scheduling conflicts. I've had a bad Summer, no fun at all.
Going to Cape Cod next week and hoping to get some water time in (not on my

) then hoping to come back and get my boat in the water for a few days. I've burned up 3 days vacation on three different launch attempts that had to be cancelled last minute due to heavy rain.
Sorry, I just had to vent a little - I am itching to get on the water and I love my boat "Airbender" 2002 Mac X

vvvvvery good site for haters of Macgregor boats. Went through it before I bought my Mac and it helped me make up my mind to buy a 26M

After 9 years of X ownership i thought my trailer needed replacement as I do long distance trailering. I bought Mac's new M alumium trailer with 15' tires, disc brakes, holds 5000lbs and has double the axel size of old X trailer. $3000.

We did very little homework, and actually consider ourselves very fortunate selecting the water ballast system, and safety features of the built in floatation of the Mac since we had little knowledge about this boat.
I purchased a 92 Mac 26-S nearly 7 yrs back, and simply knew little about this boat. The more I sailed and messed about with this boat, the more I liked it. Wanting a little more cabin space, we purchased a 26-X nearly 4 yrs back, and its been all the boat I presently want -- it does well sailing locally in the bay, and motoring about in heavy boat traffic, and with space enough for family/or friends to enjoy together.
I didnt enjoy rigging, and trailering -- just too much wasted "sweat" time. So, we put a good bottom job on the X, and now have had her in a slip full time 2 years which has made boating convenient and much more fun. She now sits always ready to go...
Pleased with the Mac-X .... yes. It's a fine safe family boat. This seems to be the opinion of Mac owners that I know -- although a select few desire a larger boat for "blue water" sailing/travel and/or live aboard.

Now that's a reason for a Mac owner to be unhappy!
(A little semantic difference between "unhappy with your Mac" and "unhappy, with your Mac"?
