Any ideas how to install a windex wind vane without removing the reference tabs on a :macm: given that mast rotates! Thanks and regards....

Griffin40M,

This has been discussed before. If you click on the "Advanced Search" function you can search the old threads. I typed in "Wind Vane", selected to display as topics rather than posts, and hit search. Came up with 54 topics. Here are three that seem to be on topic...two just happen to have the same name. Do a search and you will find others that you can quickly peruse and see if they offer any insights.

Windex on 26M rotating mast

Personally I use the wind vanes that clip onto the side shrouds. Work just fine for me.

Good Luck,
Jim

I've learned since my post mentioned in c130s' search above that the mast rotates more like 55 degrees instead of 45 degrees.
So instead of bending the tabs to straight aft and overlapping, bend each tab to be 10 degrees from the centerline.
The tabs will now make a 20 degree angle instead of the "stock" +/-45 degree angle for a fixed mast.

With the mast fully rotated, you'll end up with three reference points to use:
45 degrees (10 behind the mast 55), 55 degrees (the mast itself), and 65 degrees, (10 in front of the mast 55).

It works well.
