I FINALLY did it!!!

I am now technically the owner of a spanking new 2010 26M :macm: ! Waaahooooooo!!!! :D

We struck a deal last night and I've taken care of all the paperwork and money today! I'll see her in about 4 weeks! That gives me a month to remove part of the loft in my barn so that she will fit into and live in the barn when not on some adventure.

I decided to switch from my powerful yet ancient 260 horse runabout to a cruising sailor nearly 5 years ago when I started getting towed in every major lake of Missouri. That boat was eventually donated for cancer charity. About 3 1/2 years ago I found this forum and have enviously read so many posts since. It's been a long time! Feels great, will feel even better when I finally have my Mac here!

I've come close to several used Macs both :macx: and :macm: , White and Blue. With the last one, a 2006 white :macm:, I found out the day before driving 600 miles to see it, was missing all the titles...hence the good price. Luckily, my wife wanted me to have a new boat for a change even though the economy has taken a major toll on her career. When this offer came to us yesterday-I jumped on it!

2010 26M
Blue hull ( I like both the white and the blue hull )
Evinrude E-Tec 60
Roller Furling System
Genoa with gear
Boarding/Swim ladder
Cockpit cushions
Super Sport Special Edition package (which includes a lot!)
Aluminum trailer with surge brakes and spare tire!

Congratulations Doug,
You now own the best looking ...for the price , motor sailboat in the world. People will come up to you and ask to take pictures(the guys in white hulls don't know about this..so don't let the secret out) and your neighbours will all be jealous. And then you get to sail and motor it , mod it and learn how it works for all long as you own it.

Congratulations Doug! Welcome to the neighborhood!

As far as how you spec'd-out yer boat, I must say; either you have more wisdom, knowledge/experienced in the 'WaterWorld', or you have done your homework.

I am specifically speaking of your choice of motors.

The ETEC RULES BABY!

See ya around :)

Congrats.... now the fun begins. Too bad you are entering winter, but with that nice barn, you should be able to play until spring.

Rats!

I am now in wine envy, thanks to Mr. Ray of the SV NiceAft.

Mr. Ray, if you must come in here with a bottle of vintage grape, please bring enough for everyone :P

Hello Doug,

Congratulations on your choice of boat. I have been a happy owner for about 30 months now and I really enjoy it. I hope you and your family will have many great sailing days ahead, so I wish you fair winds.

I do believe, however, that the white hulls are faster than the blue ones. :D

I am always glad to share with those who wish to join me. The nearest board member to me is Kevin, and he does not indulge. That's why I'm glad John lives so far away :D

Thanks everyone! I have followed the postings of all of you for guidance. I liked the humor, banter and great information of this forum. As I was looking for a type of boat to fit my personality and lifestyle at this time of my life, I kept coming back to this site. The independent streak in me continually got turned off by the snobbish attitudes on other sailing forums I've visited.

I bought her through super sport marine, inc in Nebraska (and Florida). John has been patient with my many questions and steering me away from the tendancy to want to hang a 100+hp motor off the back. Earlier this summer, my wife and I took their basic sail course. Our instructor, Lyman, was very patient and helpful. I wanted my wife to be able to get herself, the family and the boat back should I jibe myself into the drink. For myself, I had some fundamental already but learned so much. I never knew you could back a sailboat up under wind power...well, on purpose :)

John from Super Sport listened to my unaffordable dream sheet and distilled a boat that I could afford yet enjoy even before mods begin! So far, my experience with them has been great. They spent a lot of time with us and let me see their shop where they were rigging a new blue :macm: in early August. We'll see how fast this blue one will be... ;) Lyman even introduced us to a great family at the lake there who have a :macx: named 'Le Vie Desante'. I'm embarrassed that I just drew a blank on their names but they graciously took us out and let me pilot Desante to get a feel for a Mac! I thank them for that!

As NiceAft's 12 year old Bowmore, Thank you! Although I am more a beer, tequila, rum, merlot and chardonnay type of guy, this was an important event to me and I broke the seal of a 1964 Kentucky Bourban last night which my father had given me and raised a glass! Cheers! Image

I'm hoping to find my :macm: this spring. (wishful thinking perhaps)

I look forward to reading your reports on your first sailing season, and seeing how you like that E-Tec. :-)

Thanks, Wetsocks! There was a very interesting thread last night on Mercury and big prop motors. I'll keep you all posted if I find any problems with that 60hp E-tec. I've read as many pro reports as cons. I suspect that as long as it's reliable when I need it and it performs adequately, I'll be very happy with it. I wrestled quite a bit with four-stroke verses 2 stroke, engine complexity, horse power, prop size, brand.

Good luck in the spring with yours! If we have as mild a winter as last year, I'll have the boat out even in winter. I'm a few miles from the sometimes fast current Missouri river--that'll be a test for the E-tec. :)
