I finally found the time to rip down the nasty, Shagadelic blue carpet in the boat. It was looking bad and everyone was scared to touch it for fear of what might drop out of it haha. I found some outdoor material at a fabric store and re-covered the wood that came out of the boat. I installed it right at dark, so no pictures yet, but here's a picture of one side before and after:



I'll post some more pictures when I get the other side done. The kick-up rudder is on hold since we have been sailing so much. Saturday was spent at Joe Pool lake and there were lots of sailboats out for some kind of synchronized trip to the far end of the lake and back. I didn't see a committee boat so I don't think it was a regatta. They were mostly big boats so my little 22 footer looked out of place. It was a beautiful site to see all those other sails up.

I finished the headliner project yesterday evening in time to take some pictures. This is a HUGE improvement over the shag carpet. All sorts of critters and various organisms fell out of the shag while I was taking it down so we are pretty glad to be rid of that infestation! Here is a look at the finished product:







It's time to get back to the kick-up rudder project. Or should I work on the companionway door modification I've been thinking about? So many fun things to do to this boat!

Finish the rudder so you can start on mine!!!! Looks great. when it cools off a little there is more interior wok i want to do on mine-a galley that can break down, and a better table to hull attachment.

Oh the rudder project. It glares at me each day when I walk by it and don't work on it. Last night I started on the companionway modification. My wife complained it was too heavy (it was), so I cut a big part of it out to install tinted plexi-glass. Last night I routed out a groove for the plexi. Here's a picture:



I hope to finish it this evening to be ready for sailing on Saturday afternoon. The foam it is sitting on will be cut to fit my cockpit seats, then covered with a similar material to the headliner. I'm looking at ideas to fabricate a DIY jib furler for my 150% Genoa. I love that sail, but it gets in the way when we take it down to fish. So much to do, so little time! More to come later....

A sailboat is a "work in progress"...And aren't we glad it is. I'm sometimes not sure which I enjoy more. Sailing my V224, or improving it.

I agree Lloyd. There are so many possibilities and fun projects to do on a boat. I finished the companionway door, worked a little on the trailer and installed a fish finder, then went sailing this weekend. Here are some pictures:

After we got home I put the mast up and mounted the new rudder frame for a test fit. I hope the neighbors don't mind too much but I'm gonna leave the mast up for a while. Now I just need to get those cockpit cushions done soon so my butt won't get so sore sitting on that hard fiberglass!
