Finally Got my 2002x and Honda 50 out for the first time after buying it and of course the water pump is shot. I have read that it is fairly easy to change the propeller/pump. Any recommendations on where to get a good shop manual and parts online would be appreciated. Also, how do you determine if the whole pump needs replacing or just the propeller. any other pointers would be appreciated.

I'ts really fairly easy. Just replaced the impeller on my 1997 BF 50 last month for the first time. Oddly enough, the old one looked just fine.
The only problem I had is that the bolts that held the lower unit on were a little tough to remove. I would just back them out a little, spray a little pb blaster on them, and work it back and forth. I actually managed to shear the '5th' bolt off. That's the one under the trim tab.
Have fun with it!

If you only using the "pee" hole indicator for the water pump, that will mislead you. When I bought my Mac it did not pee strongly. I replaced the impeller. It was almost new.
The problem, the pee hole indicator gets clogged. It happens midway through the season every year it seems. What works for me is getting a weed whacker line and making sure the indicator hole is clear. This usually requires me to remove the engine cover and the pee hole water line. Then I stick the weed whacker line in and make sure nothing is blocked. Works every time.
Having said all of that, since the Max is new to you, it might be a bad idea to change the impeller out the first time. This way you are sure of its age. But remember this hint when it clogs again (and it will).

Ours either doesnt pee or has a weak stream or strong stream.. Depends on how clogged the path is I guess... Dont know why Honda made the path so small, and easily clogged

It almost killed my winter in Florida. But, a Honda mechanic corrected the problem by pulling the pee line and hitting the pee hole with a blast of air from the bottom. Peed like a drunken sailor.
