SS - Aluminum galvanic corrosion points

Post by craiglaforce »

Just wondering how much corrosion others are experiencing in areas where the Stainless steel is in contact with aluminum. I have noticed that the aluminum rudder head brackets are corroding quite a bit under the stainless steel pivot bolt and washers. Probably should put a teflon washer under there and maybe a sleeve for the bolt. I haven't noticed much corrosion on the mast yet, except maybe on the bottom where the aluminum mast rests directly on the stainless steel tabernacle hinge plate.

Hello:
I'm not so sure it's galvanic corrosion. I have nylon spacers and washers on my rudders / brackets which have netted the same result. I think it has to do with water being retained under the washer and the aluminum just corroding.
