MacGregor 26X Original plan

Post by dimiter_gerov »

Hello,
I bought my 26X this autumn, and start to plan a number of modifications for the next spring. The first problem which I faced is missing of detailed plan of the boat. Please, help me to find one with detailed dimensions of hull and rig?

I also recently purchased a 26X. Never sailed in one, just sat in a 26X at our marina and just knew this was the boat for me. I've spent the last while searching all over the net for boat info, specs, videos and most importantly those awesome mods that most you you have done. It seems like there is more stuff an the M's floating around. Today I found this site http://www.mildredrose.com/ which is awesome. Mods, trips, videos... I'll go over every word in the next few days. Because I'm new to sailing/cruising, I'm trying to learn the whole package of the sailing experience and this site, Macgregor Sailors, is really great for that. I also find your personal web pages as mandatory reading. So my question is... is there an easier way to find owners web sites that share their Mac experiences (trips, mods etc...)?

BTW...is there any way to speed up this event known as Winter? I want to get my boat on the water!! :D

Or even better, move to Florida!

None of the silly politics or over the top taxes and more sailing destinations than you could hit in a lifetime.

Welcome aboard, Dimiter. Actually, you can do little better than this forum. The "Mildred Rose" is owned by one of our members (Paul S) who happens to be a moderator of this forum. Shame on Paul for not listing his website under the Resources => Sailing Links => Personal Websites at the top of the page. I urge all members with personal, Mac related websites to submit them and list them in their profile.

Dimiter, Please alter your profile to reflect where you are in the world. This is a world-wide forum and it is very informative to see where the various owners are located. Again, welcome aboard.

AS far as whats available for the X Model? Top Left ......this page . Mac Mods. Click on that and drop down box appears click search. Restrictions click on 26X......then click return all results at once .......and a Bazillion mods come up... posted by owners of the 26X BUT a
lot of these mods s,d, x, m, can be used on all models.....why limit yourself?? YOU...... HAVE ALL WINTER TO LOOK :D
6 or 7 years ago when M's were, The New Kid On The Block they were.... far apart and few between.. Now its getting to be the other way around . I "think" there are literally More M's than X's now, and they are still building the M's... Be that as it is ...there is lots to look at.. and consider.. IMHO
Don't start buying a LOT $$$ of stuff till you have a chance to sail your boat... I bought a few things that just didn't work on mine or wasn't really needed and they still, sit SOMEWHERE in my garage....to this day! Got an Idea? Post it ... someone may have BTDT and offer help... There are a few guys here who are very mechanical very clever.. and some who ..........arent :o You will in time figure out who the do-ers are and who the readers are..Some of the Projects are very high quality and others :D :D :D you'll figure out those as well.. Want to learn how to sail and power these boats FASTTTT? Look For Highlanders name or Beene or Quebec1, among a Few others..

I found an interesting picture about interiors of an X. Is not an "original" plan, but measurements are in meters and easy to scale in a drawing tool such "Google Sketchup" using unit converter.Image I leave here if it helps.

We too, just got a 01- 26x this past Fall.. But due to a relatively mild winter in VA, we were able to get stock distribution panel replaced, galley mod complete, swim platform mod complete. Also removed stern seat and replaced with cooler atop the swim platform, and put some shelving in the head. We replaced all the Nav lights, put pelican hooks on life lines, replaced all sail halyards and sheets. Also got new fiddle and blocks for the main sheet from ebay, and used the OEM main sheet as a vang. Now that's a lot of work..... :)

Just two more mods left for this year before we put it in the water.... Gonna get two 92 or 105 Ah batteries put in parallel for house batteries, and put two 12V 12W solar panels in parallel to help maintain the house batteries, as well as a A/B/Both switch for the starting battery and house bank. Then we want to get a boom kicker for those late summer snail sails on the Chesapeake...

Anyway,, nice to hear someone else is in the same boat (no pun intended) as we are this winter.... Hoping to get the boat in the water by the end of March...

Robert,

Is there anyway you can post pics of your swim platform/seat mod. These are high on my "to-do" list and I am looking for ideas.

Thanks,

John
