Convertibles : )

Post by Divecoz »

OK I did look around first, but I will ask ? Have any of you adapted ( yourself ) or with help... Your Mac Trailer, to accept a Typical Power Boat?
( Is there a typical power boat?)
I would like to Bat the ball around a little ... Lot of talented guys on this board...
The Primary Purpose for the trailer will still be to enable me to haul the Mac. 1 or 2 times a year a few hundred miles...
I would like to be able to move a 20 foot Center Console back and forth from a ramp ( 5 miles ?) and maybe on a rare occasion as much as 100 miles..
The trailer is short to begin with.. I "think" a 20 footer can be pulled up to the winch.. What do you think about just welding brackets that would allow me to Install 3x3 square tubes to support the New boats hulls on say 8 or 9 foot 2x8 or even double 2'sx8 carpeted "bunks"?
The last 18 months have been a long hard road..It appears to be smoothing out and getting better.. Maybe GOD willing ....its finally time to realize our dreams and there by move..
So what do you fellows think ? Is this do-able.. Issues I am missing? Am I Attacking the problem from the wrong direction? Should I look more at adding brackets to allow for a 2nd winch when needed? Then maybe just add a couple more of those V bunks??

The manufacturer should be able to tell you where your stinkpots hull needs to be supported. I see no reason you couldn't bolt on bunks for a different boat. I had a trailer years ago which I used for a few different boats. My local trailer shop had all the parts I needed including large U bolts to match my rail size and various bunk pieces, plus plenty of advice. If you need custom parts made find an experienced welder. Be sure you can tie down the boat properly and check the tongue weight. If you plan on dousing it in sea water you will need to pay special attention to rust and corrosion. I even put a jet ski on my trailer and it worked fine, even though it looked quite silly pulled up to the bow chock.

The mac Alum trl is rated for #4300 don't know about the Steel trl , you can buy all the gulvanized hardware ready avail at most Marina stores or trl shops as long as you keep within the recommended tonge weight you should not have any issues buy bolt on hardware so as it can be removed if needed later attach the bunks with lage hitch pins to make them quick disconnet
I've modified many boat trl's usualy selling the boats & mod them for the next boat

J 8)
PS if you want to get some good Idea's go look at some of the marina's they usualy have modable boat trl's to acomadate moving boats to their shop

When this whole issue comes to fruition ? I think I'll do just that .. Look at a new nicer trailer .. One thats maybe meant to be convertible..
Id like to have just one sitting somewhere, my yard or storage lot..
