Main sheet question on mac 25

Hi all,
I just rigged my main sheet per OEM specs on my 1984 mac 25. I noticed that when the boom is swung out pretty far (as if I'd be running) the main sheets actually interfere with the stern railing. Is this normal?
Do people just not let the boom out that far?
