Sorry to hear that you have to sell your boat. When I sold mine I took an ad on this site and also used Craigslist with some photos. It sold in 4 weeks. Good Luck.

I had excellent results using the classifieds on this site. I had my boat advertised on the local craigslist for several months without any results. Within a month of advertising on this site I had several serious inquiries and one offer for my asking price...then decided my :macm: was better than any alternative I could identify on a replacement keel boat...primarily I knew the condition of my boat...but the replacements???? All worked out well since I was able to direct the buyer to another :macm: on the local craigslist which he purchased.

I talked to an olde Mac fiend who keeps his boat in Sandusky OHIO Lake ERie, tells me almost everyone wih used 26X bought it thru an at this site. so I am placing an Ad
he sold his boat thru this web site. which ws my 1st 1997 26X.

Advise fom obove, Sailbaotlistings .com Free AD. I get a call from a man in the Neitherlands (SOUnds like Peggy) wants to mail me the money then a shsiper form chicagow will pick the boat up and deliver it to Europe. Claims there is a big demand for US sailboats in russia. :D :D :D :D

I told him to call me back when he speaks better Englih and hung up the phone. He called back and asked if its OK for his shiper in Chicago to communicate with me

You certainly want to be careful...but I recall a Mac being sold last fall to a buyer from Down Under, and there is a Mac 26 "flotilla" in Kiev, Ukraine. The weak dollar makes US products fairly cheap overseas.

Ukraine is a city of 3 million people, and the Dniper is a seriously big river - there are cruise ship "tours" all the way from Kiev to the Black Sea, 500 miles away. Vacation time is on the european model - 6 weeks or more a year - and EVERBODY takes vacation in the summer. I would love to figure out a way to get my Mac over there for summer cruising.

Kiev is a beautiful city, with 1,000 years of history (founded by swedish vikings), and the eye candy is to die for. Think Anna Kournikova, Maria Shapaova, etc. Sitting at a sidewalk cafe drinking coffee or Baltica beer is one mighty fine way to spend a few hours in the summer. 8) .

Having said that - the corruption index is fairly high - I would insist on cash or several weeks for a cashiers check to clear - and the bank should have a confirmed relationship (correspondent) with a major US bank.

Very sorry to hear of your health problems John, you will be in my prayers.

As for selling your boat, definitely start with the classifieds here. Read up on escrow services. One service that I have used is Escrow.Com. I used them for high ticket items that I sold and bought through eBay and one private sale. One item that I sold to a party in Italy had an additional fee for foreign currency transactions.

John...the best to you...and God Bless toward a good health recovery.

The market for MacGregors is very good down here...I'm not sure what sale potentials are in your area considering the 'down economy'. I purchased my "X" from the listings and ads on this site several years back.
The economy doesnt seem to have any sales problems for boaters here...especially the "used" boat market. Folk just like their boats in my Texas coastal areas.

Hi John;

As you know I wrote you a PM when I found out about your stroke. I am very sorry to hear you have decided to sell the boat because mine was instrumental in shaping my successful physical therapy. Good Luck whatever you do.
