After setting the rake and adjusting the shrouds I sighted up the mast and it appeared to be bending to port. Adjusting the shrouds I seemed to have gotten most of the bend out but the mast track still appears to be wavy.



Should I be able to get this better or is this just the way these masts are?

When I got my boat the rotating mast used to bind up on one side. Eventually I realized that the main problem was my mast not being setup properly and she was bending to port. I spent a morning on it. Loosened all the shrouds off to the point where none were tight, and then climbed up and down off the boat for the rest of the morning slowly adjusting them. I'm not sure if this is the smartest way to do it, but eventually I got it nice and straight and the mast no longer binds up. You need to do some more playing to get it straight... Looks like your close, maybe a notch tighter port lower, or starboard upper, or both.........

Mine has been binding also. When the sail was down or when raising the mast it had a tendency to swing to starboard.

After these latest adjustments it behaves much better. Really worth the effort.

For sure Wally,, , once my mast went to port, it didnt move, no matter how strong the wind was. As I said, I got it straight, and I also, took the base off and greased the two washers up - No more binding at all, and the mast moves as it should in all but the lightest of winds.

Deffinately worth the effort to get the mast straight!

It should be straighter than the pic....check tension on shrouds. Make sure the thimbles aren't cocked on the mast tangs.

Check your spreader height then retension your shrouds.

Good call Bob, the dimension from the top attachment point to the center of the spreader is supposed to be 12'. One side was off buy 3 inches.
I replaced the upper shrouds last year. They were nicked up from binding on the adjusters when raising the mast until I installed plastic tubes.



While not perfect, the one on the right is after fixing the spreader height and working on it all Saturday afternoon.

Wow...is your mast supposed to be that fat at the bottom, that pointy at the top, and that short??

Good call Bob, the dimension from the top attachment point to the center of the spreader is supposed to be 12'.

Should this 12' distance be the same on a model "X" as well?

I have a mast so I can't comment on the but I use a T square to set my spreaders which seem to need adjustment from time to time. Hope this helps,
