Nissan 2 Stroke Question

I have Nissan 50 D 2 stroke with the oil reservoir. I cleaned the filter last fall and when I refilled it this year there is some air in the line. Does anyone know if the air will eventually work it's way out or do you need to bleed it out. I have tried everthing to get it all the air out but it is rather diffulcult. Any help would be apprecieated.

Hello,
I like to work out the bubbles. That being said, there seems to always be a small bubble in the filter that wont go away without manipulating the filter and lines while the motor is running. Part of my spring service is cleaning the filter and purging the lines. After you have as much air worked out as possible by disconnecting the lines and burping, I run the motor at fast idle and pull the oil pump arm full on (where it would be at full throttle) and the bubbles will magically proceed to the engine (just disconnect the link and pull the pump full on). It loads up a bit but will clear with a few throttle bursts after the bubbles are gone.

Great timing. I have a Tohatsu and just encountered this problem myself. In searching the forum, I found this thread that I am going to try. Second from bottom by Tony Hauk.

service manual has a chapter on bleeding oil feed lines, at least for the TLDI model.

Thanks for the reply's. I have tried all the above to no avail. I could just add it to the fuel as I sail 99% of the time and only go thru my 12 Gal tank 2 or 3 times a year but I would like to discover and easy way of bleeding the lines. I know that gravity should take care of it but it does not seem to work as it should according to Nissan's advice. I am going to buy some plastic tubing that will fit in the bleed hole and suck the air out using a small pump to see how that works. Will let you know.

off topic but what size prop do you have on your nissan 50 ?and what kind of cruise speed do you get ?? fuel consumption are you seeing ?

Hi Scott,
I had the same problem with mine. The service manual says this about bleeding air from the oil pump:
"...loosen the air screw vent on the oil pump and bleed until all the air has been removed (drawing with arrow pointing to the bolt on top of the pump)
fill the tank prior to bleeding as the air may not bleed out if the tank is too low." I just loosened the bolt enough for the oil to ooze out and kept a rag around it to mop up the overflow. Worked like a charm. There are also directions for force-feeding the oil and fuel to the motor. Why they didn't put these in the owner's manual, I'll never understand.

Hi Hans,
I found a used service manual for the TLDI with a national craigslist search. Also the parts manual. I have the carb version, but it still comes in handy for things like this. The force feeding instructions and diagrams are a little too complicated to paraphrase. PM me and we'll figure out how to get you a copy of the instructions. It's nice to know but not essential info.

Bahama Bound: Not sure what size prop I have but will take a look in the next day or so for you. Top speed with full balast about 12 - 14 mph. Not really sure about the fuel consumption because I am usually under sail and don't really use the motor too often.
The instructions for the force feeding the oil is in a downloadable manual I found at
http://www.nissanmarine.ca I am going to try my sucking the air out thru small plastic tubing placed in the bleed screw hole on the pump. I will then do the force feed oil routine to make sure that it is flowing properly.

Just force fed the oil as per the instructions and it worked like a charm. Oil started flowing almost right away and all the air was purged.

service manuals are available from nissan-tohutsu for about 30 bucks.can be ordered online from any of the tohutsu dealers, their well worth it especially if you have the tldi with ecm.manual gives you info to access trouble codes from computer along with all other detailed service procedures.For propellers so far the best one i've found is the stilletto stainless steel in 12X9, this is on a fairly heavy boat.

thanks for the prop info ,i was told by a local prop shop that i should go with a 13 pitch but i thought thatt was alittle high ?
