OK I’ve been searching for a solution for months. Maybe this is it, I just need a little advice/ Feedback:
We have a Wesst marine 5 gal. Porta potti hooked up to a pumpout / vent. I t seems to satisfy my wife for 3- 4 days. Problem- If we are out in salt water ( I’m looking to explore Buzzards Bay Ma.) where occassionally no pumpouts can be found , even tho speeding out past the 3mile point is no problem ( 60 hp Yamaha) we have no way to “offload”. So What if I install a Y valve, macerator and a thru hull. Problem solved? I dunno will a macerator be able to suck unprimed for a foot or so ( under the mirror seat) and discharge right there or under the aft stb. seat? This seems simple and a lot less expensive than the Macgregor solution: Raritan Elegance Elec. Head, 11 gal. holding tank and 5 gal. fresh water tank. Not to mention it conserves valuable space. Any opinions?

Um it has to be almost all liquid waste ever think of maybe a simple bucket type commode for the admiral you could just discretely off load as needed and keep the porta john for needs of the solid kind? I realize space is a issue but the bucket type are pretty small or maybe limit the flushes you use? a lot of it has to be flush water Maybe limit the flushes to solids and good nights. Am i being way to salty here? because i think I would order a water ration. LOL

For just occasional use I would look at a manual whale pump with the fitting that would attach to your deck pump out and a hose to hang over the side. A lot cheaper than a macerator pump and no thru hull.

I suggest buying a Natures Head composting head. We've used ours all summer, including a week in Lake Huron's North Channel.
We still haven't needed to empty the solid waste. You can empty the liquid waste once you're outside the harbor (It's legal.)
The $1000 cost is made up by not ever having the hassle of finding or paying for pump outs. You simply empty the head into a plastic bag or pail; you can dump it in your flower garden.

Installation involves 4 screws for the hold down fittings and a 3-4" vent hole (I put mine in the window above the head.) Power draw for the small (computer) fan
is minimal. We've had no odors in the cabin emanating from the head.

I have on-board what you desire.. It works GREAT and it was no $1000.. I can pump overboard ( legal Limits) or in Wal-Mart Parking lots.. I can use a pump out station.. I can still remove my tank and carry it out.. I "could" Parallel park in front of my X's driveway and blast her car with it
It works great .. Easy Install..

The JASCO Macerator I installed on my self primes and empties my 5 gallon PP in 35 seconds...you'll need a 15 amp breaker to wire it in....and I do exactly what you propose venue wise....3 mile offshore Buzzards Bay dump...Cuttyhunk has been. Our favorite cruising site for 7 years...

In my , I have a Jabsco manual pump seawater toilet with hose to a opening out from hull... Works great, no hassle.

Sometimes, docking in harbours or using the boat as a RV on trailer, I have thought of putting a waste tank into the boat. The easiest solution would be to install a Y-valve on the hose from the Jabsco. One position out of the hull as is, and the other position into the water ballast tank. Also a suitable venting hose to a raised ventilation point will be necessary, like a conventional waste tank.

When outside the limit, dump the crap and fill/empty a couple of times. Then good to go. It sure would not conflict with necessary luggage/ storage room either.

A leaking aft valve would quickly lead to claims on the highway, though...

Whoa! Looks like this might be the solution! OK, so any thoughts on where is the best spot for the thru hull that avoids the water ballast (I imagine that the closer the macerator to the PP and the shorter the discharge hose would put them under the mirror seat)? This is great, I've been ruminating on this problem since I got the boat Aug. 2012.

My Pump in under the V Berth.. Its about ? As close as your going to get it to the PP .. All my switches are in the head.. I had room for Macerator and a Raw Water Wash Down Pump and a bunch of other stuff up in the V Berth with room to spare.. Raw Water Pickup on Port side of hull ...PP dump on Starboard..
