1982 MacGregor 22 Trailer Bunks

Post by TruckeeMac »

Hello - I am a the proud new owner of a 1982 MacGregor 22. Had some great days on her out on lake Tahoe this summer and fall and hope to keep going through the winter despite 16" of snow on the ground in the last few days!

The previous owner replaced the two bunks on the trailer with old and saggy Trex 1x6" boards, and as a result there is some significant oilcanning of the hull right above the aft ends of the bunks where they bolt to the trailer. I would like to replace them with carpeted 2x8" wood boards, but I am wondering what the original configuration might be in terms of length. Does anyone have a 22 trailer thay can throw a tape measure on to let me know how long and wide the original bunks were? how far aft of the bunk / trailer bolts did they go? Also, I am a half decent welder / fabricator, would it be worth adding more bunks?

Thanks!

On my trailer, the bunk boards are 8' pieces of 1X6, hopefully pressure treated. They start 42 inches behind the axle. Hope that helps.

Well, how did your bunk replacement go?

Mine has 2x6 boards but am thinking of installing wider. What have you learned?
