Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a Mac 26M in the UK. Can anyone give the height of the vessel when on the trailer including the mast (down) for road movement? Also, what is the width and length of the trailer? The official supplier doesn't seem to provide these dimensions.

Height: aprox 3.2 meter
length: aprox 10.8m
width: aprox 2.4m

Note the 'aprox', which is standard in many highway indices. The day could be hot: the tires overinflated, etc. This means there's a certain point at which you'll balk, at that overpass signage.
Not fun to be wrong!

I would get something with at least a 6000 LBS tow rating... I personaly like to stay below 80% of the rated tow limit. This gives a good safety rating. The stock trailler is rated to 4200 lbs (loading for a trip can easily put you over). I added a second axle to my trailer and with other mods to the boat (which all add weight) I usually end up towing 5000 to 5100 lbs.

I don't think there's such a thing as a vehicle in Europe with a 6000lbs. towing capacity, unless it's a commercial vehicle.

I assume you mean the old (real?) Beetle pictured. My wife has a 2004 New Beetle (5 speed turbo connvertible with ESP) that has absolutely no stability issues - my kids swear she has never lost control even when she occasionally drives with all four wheels on the ground

I once did a business of blueprinting aircooled vw motors. The one I had wanted to start flying at 85mph!

Karman Ghia's were notorious for lifting off at high speed. The aerodynamics would pick them right up and flip them over. Fortunately they couldn't get above 70 mph without aftermarket upgrades.

The best I could say to you is to go with Kurtz's measurements, then double check your own setup a.s.a.p. The P.O. could have changed tire sizes or hitch heights or even, trailers (!). Congrats

I even had my sisters euro model (square front and rear...) Carmen Ghia for a couple of years, before her ex wiped it for me. Dual carbs: it could really go. My main runner was a 2180cc Super-Beetle which could take Trans-Ams and much more (joy!).
