Tohatsu 40 impeller

Post by BrianW »

I bought my mac 2 years ago. The previous owner said he had the motor gone through (whatever that may mean). Everything seems fine. It pumps water and runs cool. I probably have less than 20 hours on it. Any advice on how often to replace it? The season is soon here and if need be, I would like to get it done beforehand. This is a 95X with a 40HP motor

For what its worth, I have a 99x with a 40hp 93 tohatsu. I have never changed the impeller. I get a stream, not great, but enough I think. I have run the motor since 1999. The boat has been great, but the motor more great. Never had a problem with it. jim nolan

What year is the Engine? The biggest problem I hear about, trolling forums with Tohatsu is the fact that they discontinue parts after about 10 - 15 years so if you can pick up a few spare impellers and thermostats maybe a water pump kit or two you may want to consider it. Search older Tohatsu Water Pump and troll around you will see what I mean.

I've a 08 nissan-tohutsu,i replace plugs and water impller evry third year, but i might be a little to proactive, but i have noticed they do start getting hard and lose their rubberyness at the three year mark, plus if I didnt change them then they would fail at the absolute worst possible time.
