Proposal to separate the Great Lakes and Mississippi River

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Saturday voiced support for a multi-billion dollar proposal to separate the Great Lakes and Mississippi River basins as a method for keeping Asian carp and other invasive species out of the Great Lakes.

This proposal has been around for several years now, but seems to be gaining traction. It's of great concern to Great Loop cruisers, for obvious reasons. Presumably, a project to cut off Lake Michigan from the Illinois River would include some provision for getting Loop boats past the barrier. An article I recently read suggests that the change, if it happens at all, won't happen for a number of years, considering the permitting and funding hurdles. If some sort of boat lift is constructed, it will presumably be costly to use. I'm grateful that our planned Great Loop cruise will bring us to Chicago this September, while the existing system is still operable.

Does anyone have any good Asian Carp recipes? Chinook may need them

There was a dairy restaurant for many years in what is the "Northern Liberty's" section of Philly, and it name was "The Ambassador Restaurant". They had the most amazing carp recipe, pastrami carp. It was prepared the same way as Romanian Pastrami, but with carp. Hmm hmm good

That would make it Carp Asian, and those are the mountains where Dracula came from.

How about feeding the homeless or welfare people in need and save some of that budget?
