Hello all,

Next time I am out I will be trying to lunch my spinnaker for the first time.

I have a few questions - mostly to do with what to do with the Genoa parts when using the spin.

So firstly the head - I will be using the jib halyard to raise the spinnaker. It looks as though it will end up being just below where the forestry/fuller will be attached.

Usually the spinnaker is flown on "top" but I don't think I will be able to. now, assuming that is okay ( is it?) what happens to the genoa sheets? when I fuller the genoa, the sheet roll up in to the center of the sail, but they in in the middle of the air where they spinnaker would fly and tack back and forth. does this make sense?


Okay next issue - the tack --- I was going to attach it to the plate near the furler- with about 2 feet of line. I am not in NEED of an adjustable line, unless you folks say I need this.

lastly the clew - I was wanting to run it back around the rail, but the rail is not that tough. so what should I use- the genoa track already has the genoa block on it, and is being used for the fuller, and genoa -- I don't know if I have an extra set of blocks for the jib, do they fit on the same track?

also, I was wondering if there was a clever way of running the sheets back to cockpit. or do you just hop up on top and walk around the boat to feed teh ropes back?

Hi Guys,

Here is one that has caused trouble since I have been flying the spinnaker. I have the Roger's roller fuller at the top of the fuller is always fowling with the spinnaker halyard. I though about placing the block for the spinnaker on the side of the mast. What do you think?

I'm not sure of your setup, but I ran into this problem last week on our M - the downline on the spinnaker halyard was run forward of the spreaders, causing it to get twisted around the head of the furler. What a PITA that was!

The solution was to move the downline to the aft side of the spreaders, which is the way it always had been and had never created an issue.

What are you using to hoist the spinnaker? Most folks use a separate halyard, about 18" above the jib/genoa halyard, and I added one to my using the same parts the jib/genoa halyard uses, including the hound. The uses a different hound, but it's available.

Right, I used a hound 18' above the fuller and use a block to hoist the spinnaker halyard. It fouls with the roller fuller! I will try putting the spinnaker halyards to the stern of the spreaders and see how that works.

Hi,

I put a hound 18" up the mast (somewhere on this forum it was recommended) and I use a top-down furler. That way we can hoist it furled and get sheets (one each side) sorted before unfurling. We have been able to jibe by furling/unfurling, but it is still hard to do without a fair amount of (sometimes colourful) communication.... Unfortunately it's Winter here so it may be a while before I can post some action shots.
