Hi Folks,
I'm having dyneema stays made so I figured I'd document my 3 year old stock stay construction and lengths.
Upper Stays:
:: Length, from eyelet inner top to eyelet inner top (i.e., the point at which the tangs touch the eyelet:
24'11"
:: Distance to spreader connector from upper inner top eyelet to top of spreader connector:
11'10"

top tang length: 3"

bottom tang length: 6"

Lower Stays:
Length, from eyelet inner top to eyelet inner top (i.e., the point at which the tangs touch the eyelet:
13' 0.5"

This helped us a bunch - we're making our own because the PO cut the old shrouds off!!!

Any idea why he did that?
All the best.

No idea. Unfortunately, he trashed the boat in a ton of inexplicable ways. It's the reason we got it so cheap but also why it's still not in the water.

I did find the original packing list that had the stay lengths on it. It was slightly different to your measurements. Did yours have the small tang at t the top?
Thanks!

In the world of Macgregor QC I would not expect measurements of shroud length to transfer from boat to boat

There are two different lengths for the "M" ... with or without the Tangs .... Best to have Tangs if you can.... keeps the eyelets from scratching the Mast and less stay tangles too

Thanks, Neo. I found the original packing list that has the rigging lengths on them! Only problem is that it doesn't say whether those lengths are with or without tangs. I'm going to assume that since you said your measurements were eyelet to eyelet, that they are without tangs. We have lengths of cable to make them and I ordered the stay adjusters from BWY, so we'll just go with that, I suppose.

There's plenty of adjustment on the stay adjusters. But make sure you have the baby stays with only a small amount of slack when the mast is down but locked into the base. With no wind around the baby stays and the Mask Raising System (MRS) can hold the mast up while you check/adjust the stay lengths. ... Make sure the boat id level before you start.
I swear by using this method when raising/lowering the Mast
http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... ilit=+baby ..... I lowered the mast in a 17 Knot wind today with hardly any mast sway.... Straight into the mast holder
Also when it comes to the final tensioning adjustments on the stays. With the baby stays attached you can slacken the MRS so the stay go slack and it's dead easy to take the stay adjusters up a notch.
Best of luck.

Thanks, Neo!
We don't actually have a MRS. The PO broke the winch and who knows what he did with the pole, etc. We found some crinkled up old wire that used to be the baby stays...we think.
Anyway, we will try the ole 2 man tilt up when we finally get her ready to try to rig.
I'll let you know how it goes. We are currently re-building a crashed up daggerboard, hopefully before the bottom paint goes on day after tomorrow.
aloha!

Sounds like you have a lot of work to do
Please build yourself an MRS and baby stays they are so important for raising and lowering that 30ft mast. Especially the 1st time

... I can give you all the dimensions if you need them? ... Also see BWY
