Another Noobe!

Hello All! After selling our beloved '71 22'Venture 20 years ago, we are once again proud MacGregor owners! A couple weeks ago we pulled the trigger on a gently used 2005 26M. Pretty blank canvas, this boat is....no mods to speak of, which is nice because we can prioritize ourselves. As a bonus, she's named "Dragonfly", which we both find agreeable. I always figure the old superstition of not re-naming a boat was null and void if you REALLY hated the existing name! In this case, we will keep it.
It does have a roller furling, but the halyard for it is unusable so I'm still trying to figure that out. In any case, thanks for all your helpful threads, and more importantly, for "keeping the dream alive" all these years (I've long been a lurker on this site, ever since moving back north from Key Largo).
Fair winds, friends.....wish us luck!

Welcome aboard and congratulations!
Technically, there is no halyard on a roller furled jib: you may have a halyard that hoists a "sock" to cover the jib and protect it from UV and the line that furls around the furler and allows you to deploy it. Is this what you mean "it's unusable?" If it is broken, you can easily replace it--. There is a more recent threat as to the size of that rope down below.
Have fun!

Welcome aboard npsrangerchuck. Thanks for introducing yourself. I'm sure you'll love your new Mac as well as you did your previous one.

I also have the '05 26M with roller furling but certainly DO have a halyard. It's detail "J" in the image (if the file links correctly).
CDI will sell you a new one complete with ferrule. I think it's possible to manufacture the decored line with ferrule but took the easy option and just bought the whole assembly from CDI.

Congratz! For what it's worth, if you want to
really milk that whole dragonfly motif, Harbor Freight's got a
Solar Dragonfly LED String Light - 10 Piece on sale right now for just $8.99 ($7.99 with a coupon) that you can festoon the rigging with. We got a set for our own recently-acquired and as-yet-unnamed 2001 26X whose bottom I sanded, scrubbed and painted this past week. Next up: sort out the electrics and plumbing, then, with a bit of luck and fair weather, it'll be off into the Potomac and maybe the briny Cheasapeake.

If you're talking about the furling line, that's easily replaced.

Just wanted to welcome you from another 2005 26M owner. I bought mine this year, blank like yours, but didn't even have a name. Named it
Tipsea now and she seems to like it.
P.S. Your turn to buy pizza
