It has been 6 weeks and counting with my New Glass 2 test. I have not changed my application method as outlined in the previous post (see above). The boat is parked in the drive on the trailer with the bow facing due west. So the port side takes all the direct sun. Previously any wax on the black stripes for 6 weeks would be fully oxidized by now as if they were never polished and waxed.
Not today! the port side stripes are just as glossy as day one. As of today the port side stripes are still full gloss with no hint of oxidation. Time will tell but so far results are excellent.

A few operational notes:
Removing oxidation prior to application is paramount to the final gloss results. Areas polished to a shine (not high gloss) result in a deep clear gloss shine. An area polished but still cloudy will result in the subsurface cloud reflecting in the gloss as an under surface.

Soft scrub definitely cuts the oxidation and removes stains quickly with the buffer. For areas with fine scratches or oxidation I used a more concentrated and aggressive marine polish compound to speed up the process.

Benefits to date:
Definitely has outlasted any of the multiple marine waxes I have used previously.

If NewGlass 2 works long term it would be an excellent solution to constantly removing the gel coat via polishing and risk ultimately damaging the color coat.

Update:
New Glass 2 gets my vote. I will never... ever wax again. The boat has been sitting in the drive since I applied New Glass 2 twelve weeks ago. With the boat facing west and the port side taking a sun beating for 12 weeks I have the north facing starboard side for comparison. No sign of oxidation on the black stripes as yet. I occasionally wash off the upper deck with Dawn dish soap and a soft brush or sponge. Bottom line New Glass 2 has outlasted all the wax applications of past years. None of the marine waxes ever lasted past 4 weeks with out significant oxidation of the black stripes.

Where does one buy the new Glass 2 product ???

I often think about just buying a couple of cans of decent black paint and some tape and fixing the fortnightly racoon stripe problem once and for all - and then I chicken out again... Has anyone actualy just painted the dang annoying stripes

So I'm thinking you should take me sailing so I get to know your boat. Then I can teach you to polish grasshopper. Just Kidding of course. My daughter lives across the street from Belmont Harbor. One of these weekends I may get brave enough to bring my boat up and sail Lake Mich.

Regarding the Australian sun. When I spoke with New Glass2 they did confirm that durability is longer in the northern climbs vs. Florida. Their estimate was 12-18mos for northern climbs and 12mos for southern climbs. Sun exposure like light exposure is a function. Intensity x exposure time. I followed their recommendations for cleaning and prep so time will tell.
Newglass2 definitely emphasized not to over buff and polish as the Newglass2 provides the gloss via the protective coating. I found a gentle wash, and polish to get the surface clean was all I needed to prep the surface. Extensive buffing is a waste of time and simply removes more gelcoat unnecessarily. NewGlass2 sells a prep solution for washing down the surface after prep. I think if there is any remaining wax or grease/oil residue you would have a failure to bond the NewGlass2 and most likely an inconsistent bond and surface finish.

Yes I did paint mine this season. We will see how it holds up. It does not look as nice as highly polished black gel coat but I'm past it. From fifty feet away it looks fine. I used black sign paint.

Ps I never really waxed those after the first few times. At some point I'd like to cover them with solar panels.

Mac26paul - sun in Perth is brutal. My raccoon stripes look terrible. Do you think any point in trying Newglass2?

I am finding it impossible to keep them from getting cloudy.

For what it's worth NewGlass2 corp. is based in Winter Haven Florida latitude 28°N. Where as Perth is 31°S. Perhaps the sun exposure is relatively the same less the clouds of FL. I believe the product was primarily developed for the Florida climate. There are several past posts about NG2 from Mac owners using it in Florida. IIRC they were satisfied with the longevity of the product in the Florida sun.
I'm 41°N. and therefor not a totally fair comparison for those 10-15°further S. Here's a 2011 (Tues. am garbage day....Ha)Google earth/street view of how my boat sits all summer from mid May to mid Nov. lat 41°30'27.75"N long 41°30'27.75"N.
With out the expense of a repaint so far NG2 is better than any marine wax I have used to date. Certainly has out shinned any clean, compound, polish, and wax by several months.

I would think the UV would be particularly high.

Makes my 10 year old Mac look like new. The UV is pretty harsh here in Central Texas, so I don't know how long it will last yet. Very easy to apply though.

Brian, does it actually go on black or is it clear?
