Spreader Issues 78 Mac V222

Post by Bigdamdork »

Hey everyone, so I first posted here January 26 and I finally got my unregistered (albeit super cheap) boat and trailer registered. It literally took just over 10 months.

With this said the boat is in pretty good shape. As part of the process to get the title I had to have survey done on it and the Surveyor said the boat has seen very little water. The last registrations shows 1994.

With all this said I am starting with some restoration. My "expert" boat owner friends told me to start with the standing rigging so here I am. My question is both of my spreaders aren't in the best shape. The one with the good end is bent and th other one is torn to heck. Not sure if there is a source out there for these specific spreaders or if I should realistically just look at creating them from scratch with aluminum tubing.

All thoughts are very much appreciated. This is my first boat restoration, and while I've sailed a bit with my friends, my first sail boat so I'm looking forward to getting her ready to go in the water.

Let me know if the image doesn't appear, I haven't posted in a forum like this in a while, I might be a bit rusty.

Thanks!

I broke a spreader yesterday. I took the spreader off( it was just screwed on. I went to the local hardware store here in Key Largo. They had 2 pieces of aluminium tubing. One was the right size and long enough to make two spreaders. I showed him the broken spreader ( both pieces) and he cut 2 of them out for me. 28$. I then bought a 39$ skill drill ( I'm 1000 miles from my drill) and 2 bits for the correct holes ( I brought the original spreader with me) I shoved the aluminium tube into it's slot and drilled the two holes.
Voila!
