Great cheap mod

At a local building supplies company in the UK I bought this product:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/2-way-adhesiv ... -100/38890

Basically it is a self adhesive bracket that allows cable ties to be looped through it. About $5 for 100 items.

It works great on boats. I use them to secure just about anything, for example I have a high powered cree torch, bolt cutters, boat hook and spare hand held vhf radio just inside the hatch way for emergency use and sunglasses, caps, winch handles, towels, deck brush, mast raising pole ect elsewhere. I have also used it to fix steering and battery cables to the bulkheads. I have only used them internally to date so can not say how well they would stick externally

They can also be screwed in if extra strength is needed but I have not found the need to do that yet.

I am not sure if they are available outside of the UK. If not I would be happy to send some over if anyone wanted some at cost price of purchase and shipping - should be reasonable cheap as they are only light weight.

My thank you for all the good advice I have received from this forum.

Steve

I use these on all kinds of stuff. I couldn't get them to stick to the rough fiberglass in the bilge. I'm going to try putting some 3M adhesive on them.

Not tried the bilge but 3m sounds like a good idea.

Good to here that they are available in the US.

Those are readily available all over.

The problem I have with adhesives is they don't last on the boat. When the cabin heats up in the sun, it melts and they fall off. I've not had good luck with any adhesive attachments below.
Probably work well above decks though.

Yes any good epoxy glue will stick them to the fiberglass in the bilige if it is clean. Have use those to secure my entire wire harness.

Just remember that if you decide to relocate or otherwise remove them, you'll have to deal with the glue. On a shiny gelcoat surface. And it may or may not want to come off.

My boat's PO(s) put self-stick Velcro around all the ports for curtains and I'm still working on removing the hard, crusty glue, as well as the soft, slimy glue, all around the same ports, and none of which comes off without a fight, with a combo of chemicals, a powerful exhaust fan, and an organic half-face respirator. :x

Looks great where I got it off, but an incredible chore to get it that way. Just sayin', is all.

Goo Gone has always worked tremendously well for me for sticky glue residue, and its completely non-toxic and smells like oranges to boot :)
