Chartered keel boats twice up in Penobscot Bay a few years ago. Outrageously beautiful! However both times we ran afoul of the lobster pots, millions of them! I want to go back w/ the 26M, I figure with every thing up we can just slip over them. Would like to know of any ramps but even more important, parking for a week. Anybody?

The Rockland Public Landing on Mechainc Street is what you're looking for. It is likely the best ramp / parking that I've used with my Mac. I've launched several times there over the last ten years. Great parking design, room for setup, launching. Never had a problem with weeklong parking. No washdown tho.

Despite the fee signage at the ramp, no authority has ever enforced it, in my experience. They have never provided envelopes nor forms for the cash drop (AFAIK - my cash and makeshift envelope is still in there from 10 years ago!) Best to check with local authority for updated information on that.

Lobster pots are currently at millions + 1! Easy to catch & easy to release with swingkeel!

When do you think you might be going? It's about time Over Easy made it up there again!

Thanks for your info K9! Haven't made definite plans yet, July or August. I favor August as there's less fog and bugs. It would be great to coordinate.

We have launched there many times and left truck and trailer there for up to two weeks. Never had a problem. We typically grab a mooring at Rockland Landings Marina. They have nice showers and water/gas to top-off tanks. Somehow it always seems to be mid-80ies when we are rigging and de-rigging during the July and August weeks so it is nice to take a cool shower when we are done. Penobscot is fantastic sailing. Lobster pots are never a serious issue with the mac. Just lift your rudder if you snag one. Once you understand the pattern you can navigate them easily. Regards - Harry

Many thanks for the info Harry. Rigging and de-rigging is always a sweat bath! Our usual cruising routine is to use a garden sprayer for showers but like to break up the week w/ a stay at a marina for real showers, ice and restaurant.
