I have an 01 X, While we consider ice chest options I was wondering if anyone has ever insulated the box under the dining seat to turn it in to an ice chest?

My X came with an Igloo cooler that fit in the box you are asking about. Eventually I moved the cooler to a different spot in the boat and removed the understate box you are asking about for easier storage access underneath the seat. So, in a word, no.

PO put an electric cooler in my ice box too.
The cooler is too tall by just one inch. I had to add a 1" high rim made of 1x3 lumber, and put the lid/cushion on top of that.

I did insulate mine. I took 2" styrofoam sheets, and cut them to fit. An electric knife works fairly well, but a hot wire cutter works better if you have one. I used the foam insulation you get in a can, to hold it in place. I also made a lid to fit. It worked okay. It would keep ice for a day or two, in 100 degree temps. Used a manual bilge pump to drain it. I did not glue this directly to the tub, but made a sleeve to slip it into.

Thank you all.
I was thinking of the sheet foam and spray foam as an adhesive but was wondering about draining also. Most of the better quality ice chest are about 1 inch to tall. I had not though of making a spacer. DO you find this affects the seating much?

It didn't affect mine at all. The insert fits just like it always did.

Just get a Yetti and put other stuff in the ice box. Best solution I have found. The Yetti works impressively me izneasy to
drain and clean.

Not sure the first mate will let me spring for a Yetti, although I have heard some of the imitations work very well.
