Stainless Steel post for Consel Pedestal on 26X

I have seen pictures with the stainless steel post in the cockpit giving a lot more room. After taking my boxy fiberglass pedestal apart today due to having to replace throttle cables, I was wondering if anyone has upgraded theirs to the stainless steel post one. I think that comes with the 26m model?
Thanks.

See “Pedestal rebuild to pole mount” thread for one nice unique approach to this modification by Sheppie62.

Thanks guys, that's a good post. Does anyone remember seeing the top box of the pedestal for sale as a replacement part from one of the dealers?

The one in the “Pedestal rebuild to pole mount” is actually the cut top from the original Mac26X pedestal creatively repurposed by the creator.
If you are talking about the top section on a Mac26M then maybe one of the other members may have come across that...

I inquired about a 26m pedestal before from Blue Water yachts they didn’t have any then. The 26m pedestal does not attach to the mainsail, so it might not be strong enough. I cut the post down a bit after that picture to 9” higher then original, about 12” there.
