Shower and Toilet, finally installed

Post by kurz »

Hi all

After many years of using my :macm: without installed toilet (I liked the room as a storing place) I changed my mind.
Especially in small ports in italien lakes in front of all caffes we missed the comfort.

So I went for the following:

I installed the porta potti 335. The reasen was that it is to the smallest one because in the :macm: the toilet is mounted higher than the floor. The bigger porta poties were too high to sit on for taller people. In the pic you can see the additional hold down I made of wood. The original hold down kitt of the front you cannot use, it is far to small for a mooving boat.

Image

You also can se the shower curtain I installed all around. The idea of showering is that you sit on the closed portapotty. You can close with the shower curtain 360 degree.
That the water cannot enter in the cabin I siliconed a grey board in (see next pic).
Image

In the next photo you can see the water drain hole.
Image

Unfortunately the normal shower sump pump was to big to store. I mounted it but in 99% id did not work. So the next step was to install a normal self-priming pump to pump out all the shower water directly out of the boat.
Image

In the next pic you can see the channel I constructed from a cable channel. With sillicon I glued in a hose that then brings the water from the shower to the pump.

Image

Image

This channel with hose I finally squeezed under the hole from the shower, and again fixed and sealed it with silicone.
That was quite tinkering. But finally I can say that it works and I bring the shower water out easily.

As you can see: This is no shower room with golden faucets an fancy tiles. But it gives in a small boat a possibility for showering in privacy.

Nice work Kurz.

I am not aware of anyone creating a shower in the head of an :macm:

I have a shower head and hose hidden in the motor well. It is used as a shower in the cockpit. One has to shower in pitch darkness, or be an exilhibitionist. :D

I also use it to fill a bucket to refill the Sanipottie after pump outs.

I believe Inquisitor was making a Mac26X location shower/head in his Mac26M that he was finishing up this past summer.

But as far as I know Kurtz is the only operational shower in the Mac26M head location.

Well done Kurtz! 👍🍾🎊🎉

Don’t let the other guys fool you, there’s a lot to be said about being “civilized” :D :D

Least always as far as the shore side cafe’ diners are concerned :P 🙄 :D :D ….

My Admiral likes the concept of an onboard shower for our Mac26X …. Especially now it’s into November here on Lake Champlain Vermont and the walk to/from the Marina showers is getting a bit nippy 🥶….

I'm not so sure I like the idea of being "civilized". If I can see another boat I figure the anchorage is already too crowded. :) I suppose if I'm forced to spend the night near one of those "shore side cafes" you speak of I'll just have to skip the nightly ablutions.

You are at least 1000 miles north of me right now. I don't think you have anything to worry about regardless of the wind direction. :D

We use a simple Zodi stainless steel cylinder shower. Heat it on the stove, lock it closed and pump it up. We shower out in the cockpit. Search “Zodi” on this forum and you’ll find many mentions.

The vision through the companionway of my beautiful wife, quietly showering on a misty morning on Lake Winnipesaukee, and seeing the warm steam gently wafting all about her gentle curves as I lay drowsing in the V-berth, is one of my fondest boating memories, actually.

I second the Zodi is ok as a shower device. We just heat water on the stove and pour it in the Zodi. We lift the seat and stand in that slightly lower area so the water drains over board. Most times we just jump in if the water is above 68 F, soap up and jump in again. In Florida we get in quietly so as not to advertise to the gators on swampy lakes and rivers. Truth is there are millions more gators now than in the 60's and 70' in Florida. I tell folks to worry about lightning as it kills and injures more folks than sharks, gators and snakes put together.

Here's a cute little 7 footer I saw on my last kayak trip. I was about 3 miles up-river from my house in a 10' sit-on-top kayak. He was the largest of 5 I saw that day. I was about 15 feet from him when he left the bank.

Hi Be Free!

What the Heck!!! :o :o :? :?  :| :|
And you’re in a sit on kayak!!! :o :o :? :? :| :|

Not sure if I’d be up to sightseeing alligators with you. :D :D I think I’d need a package of Depends… Nooeee not me! :D 🐓🐓🐓 :D

We’ve got Gators here in SC and I’ve personally had to contend with them on the golf courses ( by politely staying as far out of their way as possible :D :D ). I’ve also seen them land sprint after prey at amazing speeds (faster than a golf cart going down hill at full speed :o ). Also seen a 5 footer take down a grown deer getting a drink at waters edge. The critters can swim amazingly fast when they want to without hardly disturbing the surface like a stealth torpedo with teeth.

I’ll give you credit for paddling along and having the wherewithal to take pictures! They are impressive creatures that deserve respect and protection in their habitats. (I just don’t want to encounter them on an up close and intimately personal way … such as when taking a bath in “their tub” as it were … a cockpit shower with a pump sprayer of warm water sounds soooo much more appealing to me :D :) :D )

Thank you for sharing that photo!

Best Regards,

Multi-generational Florida native. Alligators are just a fact of life here. As long as they have not been fed by humans (and are not hungry) they will generally leave people alone. Just give them a chance to retreat and they will (usually) not be aggressive. Sun Tzu said 'When you surround an army, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard'. Applies to gators too. :D

Yes, we too ran into the issue of the head floor getting in the way of the larger potty so I removed the floor:

Image

I also made a hold down for the potty that grabs the back handle of the potty - you can see the grabber thing at the rear there.

I put the potty on the little hook back there and lock it in by swinging the lever over the handle.

It laces the potty way back further inside the head :

Image

I made a lot of changes to the pedestal that includes ballast indicators and charts on both the interior dash and the pedistal but I probably should not talk about that because it's not really bathroom related.
