So I've moved the roller furler from the to the and want to use my Genoa for the furler. My jib is tired and the Genoa appears unused. Was going to reach out to JudyB but it appears the last time there was contact with JudyB way 2017 here on the site. I have an industrial Singer and am not afraid of taking this project but my "spare" time has become scarce with work and rehabing the .... Has anyone reached out to Doyle or any of the other New England shops and had a good affordable experience? Suggestions welcome!

Judy B is no longer making sails. When she was, I think it was only new sails.

Sailrite.com has lots of tools and materials if you think you have the hardware and skills.

Looks like there are lots of sailmakers in your area.

Any local sail loft can do this modification.

They will pull off the hanks and sew on a luff tape and Sunbrella. Make sure you get your hanks back, they are pricey little nuggets.

Most lofts are charging $100 to $125 per hour plus the cost of materials.

Get two or three bids.

You can save a little money by waiting until the off-season.

take ur hanks off before hand otherwise they,ll say Oh sorry we tossed them out which is B/S because they,ll keep them for use on someone else,s mod sail & make a $$$ off them

There is no way a sail loft is going to "steal" your hanks and then "re-use" them on someone else's sail.

This is "Screw" England... trust me if they think they can get away with it they will. I reached out to Doyle Sails by email and haven't heard anything yet. Since I'm delayed getting the boat to the slip might just order the kit from Sailrite and do it. Cant be any harder than templating and sewing a convertible top for a 356...

I saw a used Harken MKIV Unit 0 for sale for around $400, us I,m sure it was on ebay , they sell for around $1200, us new so if it has all the parts including the alum foil which comes in 7ft sections so shippable as it can b taken apart & dismantled, it would b a good deal if it,s in good shape
thought u might b interested I shoulda saved the link just search it on ebay it,ll likely come up if it has,nt sold yet !. u r likely cheaper to find a local sail loft to convert it as shipping can get expensive
I just bought a used Drifter it,s a light air flat cut genny approx about 230% of my Jib for up-wind sailing for approx 2/3rds cheaper on quotes for a new one it has a high cut clew as the leach is 3ft shorter than the Luff it will sheet off my aft mount ratchet blocks & genny tracks to my aft coaming mounted #7 Lewmar winches maybe u can find something used cheaper in good condition

I was born in Portsmouth, NH, and grew up in Newport, RI. At the time, MA and RI were the most corrupt states in the country right behind Louisiana.

Regardless, I can assure you and Highlander that there is no sailmaker plot to steal hanks and use them on another client's sail nor are they melting them down into bars to sell as raw metal.

The industry has been guilty of many things over the years, however, this isn't one of them.
