Suzuki DF70 propeller on 26M

Post by Macsailing »

Just in case anybody else is having trouble finding the correct propeller for a suzuki DF70A on a 26m.

With Todd from BWY help i was able to find the right pitch. My 26M had a 15 pitch that was lugging the engine, i could only get 4600 RPM and 21 MPH.

I switched to Todds recommendation, 13 pitch, no I get 6000 RPM at 22.5.

The challenge was finding a prop and hub kit that would fit. Finally after returning 2 props i found the Combination. Solas Rubex prop and Hub kit. Thd motor seems much happier at higher RPM.

Let me know if anyone wants the part numbers.

Great news that you found the sweet spot.

There are many factors for finding the best fit.

I bought our boat from BWY and they pitched my DF70 for best performance....in salt water at sea level.

Our boat is at 4,500' elevation in fresh and had similar results as you. Would never reach optimum WOT RPMs.
Part of the problem I believe is altitude and thin air. The motor is starving for oxygen. So I reduced the pitch and it's much happier. I keep the old prop for a spare, although I've never damaged the prop (I ate 3 props on my runabout).

Post the part numbers so others might enjoy the same success you have.

I also have the 2009 DF70A on my 26M. With ballast full and 24 gallons of gas I can only hit 20 mph at wot. Are you testing with full ballast and tanks? I also have ablative bottom paint which has some texture to it and is probably an additional drag. I think I have the same solas prop as you. Jeff

I am testing with 24 gallons fuel ballast empty. If i go over aboz 15 with ballast full i get to much spray in zhe cockpit. With ballast full i imagine i would have similar speed as you.

Anybody know why i get drenched with ballast full.

The Mac is a very wet boat at high speed. It is what it is.

I almost always run full ballast. Fill it in the beginning of the season and empty it at the end.
