Thinking out of the box ....
Kudos to this boat owner ... I didn't even know you could have 5 (count'em 5) outboards on a boat.

Re: Thinking out of the box ....
I thought he handled it quite well. I’ve seen on that channel some videos of boats going like a bat at of hull with occupants in the bow being tossed around.

Re: Thinking out of the box ....
I am happy to say that I have never encountered conditions like that and hope I never do.
Out of curiosity, would a 26X with the good old Honda 50 be able to handle that?
Ballast full, cabin sealed of course!

Re: Thinking out of the box ....
Actually, I think he could have done that a LOT better - he got way too much bow water. I'd have trimmed those motors up considerably more, and given it more power, which would have raised the bow while also adding more speed to split the waves and ride over them, rather than letting them wash over the boat endlessly.
As for multiple engines.... well.....

This is an actual drug boat that was confiscated with eight 250-horsepower engines (with a total fuel storage capacity of 15,000 liters) which enabled them to outrun pursuers at speeds up 60 knots. These drug smuggling crafts were designed with low profiles (to avoid radar detection) and were painted grey or black to make them difficult to spot on the water.

My impression is that most of the boaters are gloing too fast for conditions.
Slow and steady wins the race.

I'll see your 2,000HP and raise you to 3,000HP. This production boat does 80MPH on the open ocean smoothly. I think it lists for over $3M. For people with too much money.kmclemore wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 7:22 pm As for multiple engines.... well.....

True, to some extent. I’m more of the thought that the speed should match the conditions, to provide the best safety and comfort. In the case of that inlet you have to go at a somewhat faster pace in order to properly hit the swells.dlandersson wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 3:28 am My impression is that most of the boaters are gloing too fast for conditions.

I'm more of the thought that there are old sailers and bold sailors, but there are no old, bold sailors.

Point Pleasant Canal in New Jersey is proof positive that stinkpot owners should be licensed:

Re: Thinking out of the box ....
Yes!
I've been through the Point Pleasant Canal many times. It's a circus.
The Rt 88 bridge was replaced and when they did they left the old foundation in place. This caused a vortex and at full flow of tide, it created a waterfall that dropped the level several inches. Boats had to have power to lift up above that "waterfall". Eventually, they removed them, but for a while, it was quite dicey.
As a sailboat, we NEVER entered the canal unless it was slack water. The crazy powerboats had no respect for our situation and would cut you off going through the bridges. Yea, don't miss that.

Re: Thinking out of the box ....
Yup.
Was visiting family and we decided to take his boat out for a sail.
I have been in some nasty conditions in my life, but I wasn't remotely prepared for this hull hole. We bounced around like a rubber duck in a tub. At one point, I thought we would lose the mast.
