40Hp Tohatsu. If I had to do it over I might go with more like a 25HP.

2005 M E-Tec 50
Hey WaterNWaves....
What's the deal with the E-Tec 90? Is it also a 2-stroke, and if so, does it meet the EPA emissions regulations as the 50 & 60 hp? Some lakes, specifically Lake Tahoe in California/Nevada will not allow 2-stroke engines, except for those on the approved list, like the E-Tecs, but I believe no bigger than the 60 hp. Must be nice to have a 90 horse. Can probably hit 30 mph+ I can get my 50 up to 20.5 with no balast, light current and smooth water.... 17-18 any other time.

Leon

CARB testing of the etec90 as s well as envinrudes found the Etec 3 star compliant now, with lower emmisions than even 4 strokes in some compounds.

and the 90 Is also approved, per the most recent listing I have...... 70 days ago. I will check into my sources at Evinrude to see if this has changed. Some of the larger versions of the engine have been software modified for even even leaner emmisions and tighter temp control. So will be retested.
The nice thing about eht Etec is the Mass airflow sensor which helps compensate for altitude. Something I hear might be added to the Tohatsu/Nissan soon.

the hangup for me right now is the time it is taking to do all my insde transom mods, fabbing new rudder brackets. Steering changes (aided of course by my recent steering failure), and I am also evaluating a few other additional wetted hull changes. (I didnt know fiberglass was addictive.....honest officer) while trying to work 50 to 60 hours a week with too much extra commuting........

HAving winter projects is a good thing tho.....

And yes I have been on two boats now running that E-TEC 90... It is a good solution for a mac, However I want better tracking (motor) and better pointing sail... so this means some method of increasing keel effect....... so stay tuned

97 26X, Nissan 30HP 2 stroke, I hate the smell of it, enough power to empty ballast though.
