Sorry haven't been on site in awhile. Thought Moe was selling his Mac. Is he back? Hope he never leaves! Would miss him terribly! Did I miss something? Maybe he is not selling out...for a Whaler!

I think he still needs to get his 'fix '
... but he's basically sold the boat now. Of course that doesn't mean he isn't still a wonderful resource of knowledge and a generally good bloke, though, so I'm happy to see him hang around as long as he likes!

One of the things that most attracted me to the MacGregor was the community here. I'll be around for awhile longer even after the boat is gone.

Sorry Moe is still selling or has sold his Mac. We all should have got together and bought his WHALER....or stolen it ....or sunk it....just so Moe would have to keep the Mac. Enough! Stay around Moe!

I still think the MacGregor 26X is the best cruising sailor available. What it showed us, though, is that WE really aren't trailer sailors. It's really about that simple. We also have a penchant for the nostalgic, i.e. the Airstream trailer and Harley motorcycles. The real question is whether we're willing to invest the time and money on a high-maintenance teak and bronze-laden boat, in a slip a 3 hour drive away.

I know I'm NOT! As much time and $ as I spend on the Mac, I can't imagine needing even more for maintainance....it would kill me.
I just spent the last week waxing, scrubbing, cleaning my Mac along with a few mods (AM/FM/CD/MP3 with speakers in cabin and cockpit, reworked pressurized water system, general boat reorganization) and I'm about out of energy. I would have much rather been in the water with her!

Moe,
I enjoy your posts and hope you stay "on board". We sail Lake Erie and haven't met you on the water yet. We share your discovery that we aren't trailer sailors. But we slip at our condo marina - it has a shallow access, especially in the fall the last few years. I am on the search for the "perfect" sailboat for our needs. My wish list:
- more live aboard space and comfort
- a real head and shower (bigger space)
- more teak and brass
- an invisible power source
- very traditional, not modern, styling
- affordable (did I only say that once?)
Yet I love some of the features of the Mac
- very capable in shallow waters
- you can do the haul-in, haul-out yourself
- get up and go more than hull speed.
Please keep us all informed of your search- I'm sure sailing is regularly on your mind.
