Honda BF50 Waterpump

I have a 2001 Honda BF50 on my 26X. As I am getting ready for the sailing season, I am considering replacing the water pump impeller. The motor has only had 3 seasons, the last one in salt water and the pump appears to be working fine (I always rinse after a trip). However, the single most reason for failure is a bad water pump.

I have the Seloc 1978-1999 repair manual (there does not appear one on the market for the 2001 model). The manual tells me that I should drain the gear oil, remove the prop etc.

It seems to me that I should simply unbolt the lower unit, which should then give me access to the waterpump.

I would like to hear from someone who has done this job on the Honda. Could you provide the steps involved? How much time does it take?

Your help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Harry

Thanks Wes, seems simple enough.

Have you been able to find a good Honda parts supplier on the web? My local dealer stopped selling parts.

Harry, twice I have ordered Honda BF50 water pump service kits from Advanced Mower.
Approximately $30 with shipping.

Here is the website:
http://www.advancedmower.com/honda_outb ... p_kits.htm

The price listed is probably incorrect. I think the actual price is $27.00

"Water Pump Service Impeller Kit
Fits BF35/45, BF40/50
Includes: Impeller, gaskets and
water seals

7452212 - $66.40"

I checked that website and was shocked by the price.

I placed my order with Boat and Motor Superstore at
http://www.kenyonpowerboats.com/contact.htm for $19.95 + s&h. They seemed knowlegable but you can only place orders by phone. Furthermore, they did not have the parts in stock which causes extra delays.

I would have thought with the popularity of the Honda motors that there would be plenty of mail order places.

Thanks for your post though.
