Spinnaker and sail trim and stuff
Ordered a 295 Chutescoop for the a-sym, havent got it yet but visions of rounding the top mark and POOF, up goes the a-sail. In the meanwhile I found an excellent site on sail trim of all kinds.
Check it out!!!
The files are PDF's. I downloaded pretty much everything and the racing pages stuff as well. Excellent reading.

P.S. The Last box of parts I needed just arrived via USPS courtesy of Bill @ Boats 4 Sail. New halyards, Block and hounds and more stuff. Thanks Bill. Now to get the boat and start bolting stuff on.
On Edit: When a fellow replies to his own posts its a sure sign he is padding his post total. Legal yet unethical. As a certified thread killer and self appointed orange vest wearing hall monitor, I reserve that right.

Blt, A redundant "Multi pane single post" is unethical and should be an illegal way to pad your total. Catigale, We need a ruling on the floor!!!
On Edit: I just noticed that Chip and Frank are the moderators of this section. While Frank has a sense of humor and will prob just laugh at your gamesmanship, Chip will prob ream you for the Multi pane post!! After all, Chips a rocket scientist and has no time for your paltry padding trickery!!

Nope. I find it annoying but not worth the effort, so I'll just wait until he gets close to Admiral and then randomly delete his posts to get the total back down where it belongs.Scott wrote:While Frank has a sense of humor and will prob just laugh at your gamesmanship, Chip will prob ream you for the Multi pane post!! Note though, that Frank and I can only exercise control over the Trailers and Performance forums, whereas the rank is based on posts in all forums.
Guess I'll have to conspire with the other moderators on this one.

Re: Spinnaker and sail trim and stuff
Nice, I also saw your spinnaker halyard mod. Do you plan to keep the spinnaker rigged outside the foresail? What wind speeds are good for using the spinnaker (thinking of getting one)? Also, what did you use before the chutescoop to douse the spin?Scott wrote:Ordered a 295 Chutescoop for the a-sym, havent got it yet but visions of rounding the top mark and POOF, up goes the a-sail. Thanks Jeff, Yes we plan on flying the a-sail outside the fore triangle. You can fly it inside or out and many conflicting schools of thought. I would have loved to keep flying it behind the foretay but I couldnt figure out a good way to use the chutescoop without a dedicated halyard.
Prior to the new rig setup I flew it just like a jib. Launching and retrieving were a little like dancing with the fat lady. To raise it I set the sheets at the aprox set but looser, then hauled it up standing next to the mast. I then dove back to the cockpit to set it properly without getting flogged by a sheet snap shackle. To retrieve it I would de-cleat the halyard and stand in the forehatch and pull the foot in while lowering it to keep from shrimping it. I would leave the sheets set until it was down and have my wife pop the sheets when I had it down.
With dedicated halyard and sheets I couldnt figure out a way to fly it inside without getting everything tangled.
On edit: Downwind I will fly my spinnaker in any wind conditions I muster the bravery to sail in. Broad reach or upwind I would keep it to 10 mph or lower. Maybe less. Its a lot of sail and it can get hairy pretty quick. I recomend practicing in very light wind and working your way up to find your comfort level.
