Just went to your VYC site and saw that you out sailed Mike Secor on 4/10/04. Because of you I've been looking in my area to see if maybe I could start racing this year, but I'm a little timet about it. There is a club Albatross Yacht Club that hold races near me, but I think there boats would be so much faster then ours that it would wouldn't be much fun. . But I might still give them a call.

Well good for you! Do it, even though I would never classify our X boats race rockets, I must in all honesty admit I race ONLY to achieve my personal best. I hardly feel I can be an inspiration at all at this point and was suprised to see the post,LOL!!! I just go out to have a blast, and do! If I was serious, I'd get a MacD classic, or even race my old sled, a Venture 25, a 1976 model. It is a good thing to go out and race, and see improvement!
What really happened in that race was Mike Secor (A former race Captain BTW) is I believe he really got skunked, he had jib problems and it stalled him for a bit. I am not sure, but it may have been a simple crew error. Mike is a great skipper, and I crewed for him in past years! Nonetheless, it was nice to see me place, (corrected time) but it may take some persistance to see any results that are respectable.
I had 2 DNF's in that series. The 1st one was.... well, I was so far behind, that I took pity on the race commitee, and didn't want them to wait forever to see me limp across the finish line (wind was not cooperating) ! The 2nd was that a cargo ship was comming in and with our new homeland security exlusion zones, would have placed us in a position of a big fine, 50 cal machine guns trained on us, embarrasment, etc. So it was a coin toss to take the DNF. In San Diego's south bay in amoungst the Navy Ships is where we have our downwind marks, so there is always an intereferance possibility with ships comming in!
What I am truly waiting for, is the 2 M's that are new joins in our club! I know one skipper is a serious contender, as he has been racing hobie's for 30 years competatively. But, then again, this being mono's it may differ a bit! I have crewed for years on many venue's throughout the world, (being in the military made that possible) but must admit this is the very first time with my own ride!
Thank you very much Janusch, for the recognition, if only to inspire others to find a club, and give it a go! I find the comradere amoung sailors fantastic, and even a better deal if you are lucky enough to find like boats (Macs) to do functions with. Hunter h26's apparently are quickly becomming the boat of choice as far as an upgrade. They are plush, sail faster in heavy air, but they are still no run for my money!
Go out and have fun with your Mac.....and discover some really fine people to boot!
