It is "newly overhauled," which I imagine is why it is so much cheaper, but it does have a one year warranty.

Now how to I find the best, i.e., cheapest, way to get the lakes in my region put into it? Do I need bluechart?

I rec'd a WM mailer for weekend specials, beginning today.
The one thing that caught my eye was that Binocs are 30% off.

I'd like to have a pair of binocs with an internal compass, maybe lighted.
Course, I'd also like to have the fancy stabilized ones too ...
although a review last year observed that stabilization isn't actually effective while afloat~!!!

I'm getting confused on that "fuzzy line" thing. Why is it you can advertise a West Marine sale but not be too specific about other product's?

It all comes down to the relationship between the poster and the product.

In this case, I don't believe Catigale works for West Marine and in any way benefits from your buying a product from West Marine. Rather than looking for pecuniary gain, Catigale's motivation is just to share a find with you/us.

Its a different story where someone is trying to sell his/her own products. The only accetable way to do that on this forum is through paid advertising.

The whole Sub $600 Autopilot thread is a real close call.
But, at least so far, it has been more R&D than sales promotion.

I don't have a lot to compare them to, but I really like the Bushnells that I got. They're sku#137500, and are listed as Bushnell 7x50 Marine w/Illuminated Compass & Rangefinding Reticle. They're waterproof, fogproof, and they float (so they say- I don't want to find out). I got mine through www.binoculars.com and just got a email flyer the other day listing them as onsale and instock for $128.99. There is free shipping (post), but you have to ask for it. I got mine in 4 days and they were very helpful over the phone with all my questions. The illumination for the compass part is a gentle nighttime red, so in darker conditions it doesn't burn out your night vision. I'd recommend both the glasses and the dealer.

I dont, but they always start a mariachi band when I come in the door...

Great price, too. Same in WM is more expensive . . . go figure~!

I bought these Barska binos off ebay and have been happy with them. They aren't light and they aren't Stiener... but, they are great for boat use...

Nah, not cheap, just an excellent shopper!

The Barska page warns that their glasses ARE NOT "floatable" since they have an alloy body instead of plastic. Rather, their's are "submersible" and provided with a "flotation strap." Both the Barska and Bushnell look like excellent choices.

When I was a sea explorer I was taught that it is called rope until it is put into use, then it becomes a line. So, you can buy a big pile of rope, once you use a piece for tying to a dock it becomes a dockline. That's just what my old Norwegian captain taught us. You have never seen a man with bigger ears, he said he grew them that big so he could hear where the wind was coming from, tomorrow. We all knew it was so he could keep tabs on us in the foc'sal while he was in the capt's cabin 50 feet astern of us.
