Does anyone see any problems with drilling a new hole in the mast four feet from to to reestablish the flotation ability of the mast, It will be approximately 1/2" in dia. Then I will fill with great stuff foam. I will also fill the top as well.

Was thinking the same thing.

Our M's mast has no foam for the bottom 3-4' of the mast.



There were also holes in the mast from the factory that would defeat the purpose of having sealed pockets of air. At this point, not sure how much value the foam has. There was very little foam in our mast.

To answer the original question....I can't imagine it would hurt. Drill the hole...fill it with great stuff...I would think would be fine. That stuff dries rock hard when it dries. Probably pretty close to the same stuff that was in the mast from the factory.

For Every pocket of air, you could be creating a pocket of water which could lead to the very thing your trying to prevent. Especially with those that have installed wire channels in the mast and intend to leave it in a slip. (I'm really trying to reach those without mast caps here). I'm sure the factory cringes everytime they hear about wire installation. They could solve the problem by installing the conduit but I'm sure thay have other concernces about this as well otherwise they would have aready done it.

Sorry about that, I guess that's what the preview option is for. Four to five feet from the top of the mast. I installed a 3/4" P.V.C. pipe the entire length of the mast, now I want to refoam creating several chambers if possible.
