This may be an elementary question but, for those of your that have/use boat hooks, where are you stowing them? I've always tossed it in the aft berth, but that's not very accessable in an emergency.

I put some plastic clips on the inside headliner, starboard side. fits quite well. easy to access quickly.

I also put 2 clips on the inside bow, starboard side, works well

I have an X and store mine on the starboard side inside the companionway just aft the head door. Its held in place using industrial velcro. I don't think this will work on an M however.

plastic clips hold it in place adjacent to the hinges of my X's head door...

I have a handle installed on the slider hatch and just hang it there when sailing. I know it's in the way and primitive but it's at hand when needed. When not on the move it just gets dropped behind the galley with my shark gaff and pocket fisherman.

I found that to be the most convenient place also, and we likewise use a strip of velcro.
When we're coming into the slip, and occasionally when on the water, it's kept in the cockpit.

Ours is in 2 clips, mounted vertically to the head wall, just aft of head door (essentially, in a vertical line about 1.5" aft of the head door). Easy to grab from the cockpit and is pretty much out of the way otherwise.

I use a loose plastic cable tie around the starboard companion way handle. I slip it over the top of the boat hook and tuck the handle between the cushion and the bulkhead, just after of the head door on my X. It is always at the ready and has never come loose. No holes, no glue.

I bought a 2 inch pvc plumbing butt connector and used staiinless screws to hang one low in the right side of the companionway at the top I use a large velcro strap and slide the hook into it.

Mine is telescopic and I put it just insice hatch on left side.
It goes from mattress to hatch coaming lip , sprung loaded by mattress.
Have a beer and it will make sense. John.

On my (new style) M, there is just enough space between the top of the ladder and the bottom of the companionway hatch to stow the hook with plastic clips. I use a telescoping hook that when retracted does not protrude into the port or starboard access areas to the aft berth. I cant think of a more perfect location for it... neatly out of the way, yet very accessible from the cockpit.

Crazy, I'm the same as kziadie on my 03M.... I like this spot too, never know it's there, but easy to get to.

No you don't need a boat hook until you REALLY need it and then its too late. We had the anchor drag in a heavy wind this summer. 10 PM and felt and heard a bang on the stern. We were close to shore because the bay we were in was very deep and we had hit a rock on shore. Long story short, we pulled anchor and headed for a mooring ball we had seen earlier. My wife had to hook the bouy in 3 foot waves while I manouvered close enough and then hold it till I was able to get to the front and tie off.
Sure was glad I had a boat hook then. Also glad I have an Admiral willing to do that. Just my two cents worth

You can get by without a boathook most of the time as Trouts Dream said, but it is definitely handy when the weather gets rough. I especially like it when I am manouvering in a tight marina with a stiff breeze blowing... I can have my daughter push off (if necessary) with the hook rather than her hands which always makes me nervous. Plus it has saved me a couple of times when I have lost the jib/spin halyard halfway up the mast.
