James,

whereabouts did you launch from to make your crossing. Also, how was it when you met up with the Gulf Stream?

We crossed at Anglefish Creek just north of Key Largo. Please see Conch Cruisers for Map. Ran aground in channel. Shoaling at #3 Red. Fun at 5 AM. We had a bad forcast. Orginally it was to be 5 to 10 mph from the east but it was from the North East, not to bad really but in the last 12 miles the wind turned strong from the east and we was heading directly into it, the bow was out of the water every wave. My boat buddy was in a Mac 25 and he had a Mer 25 but no auto pilot like I had. Inorder for him to stear he had to turn the motor and rudder at the same time. Younger than me and in good shape, He was exausted by the time we docked. Very wet last 15 miles. I had just installed weather cloths and that helped keep a lot of the wind and water off. The Auto Pilot saved me from stearing, I spend almost no time at the wheel. 12 hr trip. We should have left at 2 AM instead of 4 AM.

I have a new VHF that can be connected up to the GPS to transmit location when broadcasting. I had arranged to make contact with my buddy boat every 15 min. The big boats make contact with the coast guard on channel 16 so they avoided us quite well the whole trip. Nice new trick.

I kepted my boat in Port Charlotte and launched from their and my boat buddy used a marina in Maimi.
