Re: Who here actually keep up to date sail logs?
I keep mine online as well. SV LAIKA Seasonal Deck Log A custom setup using free software tailoring it to suite my needs. A quick view of the season tells me how much I haven't sailed :( One can drill down further onto date for data on a particular trip. Photo's I share elsewhere to a broader audien...

Re: Zombies Dont Swim
Regardless of which Apocolypse...(Zombie, Peak Oil, Financial Collapse, Alien invasion, Supervolcano, etc..) I would take a sailing vessel over a bunker for any long term survival. 1-Mobile 2-Self contained/Self Sufficient 3-The very medium you sail on more than likely contains a viable food source....

Re: Genoa Sunbrella add-on vs sock cover
I used a sock on my first 26X..... When using a sock you MUST add additional turns on the furler once the foresail is covered. It should have a spiral look just as if a sunbrella cover was sewn on. By twisting the cover, it will GREATLY reduce the flapping of the cover as it will no longer act like ...

Re: Using a combination lock
Interesting, I bet this isn't limited to "combination" locks. Key locks in this form should be just as easy since they're exploiting the latching mechanism as opposed to the combination mechanism itself. I would think most locks of this type using an angled latch thereby allowing the alumi...

Re: Mold and Mildew Control
Gotta kill the spores...plain and (not so) simple. Chlorine Dioxide and a fan baby! Had great success when I first purchased LAIKA a few years back using a CL02 product called ProAction 24 , which unfortunately is no longer available. Though it worked great, I assume either the spores NEVER really a...

Aqua Signal Series housings uses Dimple/Barrel End LED Bulb. Hella Marine Series housings uses Cone End Festoon Bulbs. NO Need to glue anything, just pull the existing incandescent bulb, note the end type, and it's length in mm and "Google" away. Yes, warm white for "Bi-Color" Ho...

Re: East Coast launch ramps ?
A website would be golden as well. We will be sailing Mystic Harbor area, New York Harbor, and possibly making our way to Fla., East coastal region eventually. I will be pulling with an R.V., so we may be out for a month or more at a time, depending. Tom, LAIKA is out of Mt Sinai Harbor, which is m...

Re: What Did Santa Bring You This Year?
The Admiral sought fit to gift LAIKA with a KENYON EXPRESS II Portable Gas Range as a suppliment to the existing ORIGO Alcohol Stove. Quicker Coffee and TWO cooking surfaces! The ample West Marine gift card is well received too. Even the Walmart Gift card I received will eventually be used for boati...

The last "X".....
Does anyone here know who has the honor of owning the last production
?
Or the honor of owning the first production
for that matter?
Curious as to the HIN's and when the last/first were actually laid down in the molds.
(Slow day at work.)

Long Island rates are as follows: Town of "Crookhaven", Mt Sinai Long Island Sound : $64/ft a season which is May 1st-Nov 1st As you can see, LAIKA cost me $1664. I used her only 10 times this season making that ~$166.40/sail. I was on the waiting list for 10 years. Unfortunately I had a V...

Re: Found A Weak Place On The Boat Seat (x)
Funny thing I'd like to point out.... My 1st '02 :macx: the seat seemed quite solid if I remember correctly, I did sell her in early '05. However, my 2nd '02 :macx: had a significant "spongy" feel to the seat. Also, I seem to notice several areas of the glass does not feel as firm as it sh...

I didn't "crack" the Champagne bottle on her, but I did shake it up , let the cork fly and allow the resulting shower spray all along her port side at the dock as I said the Mariners Prayer. Dear Lord, Be good to me. Your sea is so wide, and my boat is so small. All the town dock workers a...
