Re: Swing Keel Access, Cable or Rope, Termination Type
Thanks. That's a great idea. I will give it a try. Regarding the MacGregor Yacht Club, have thought about it, but frankly with the two kids (7 and 3) it has been a struggle getting out on the boat, period. I will check it out and see if I can get on a distribution list. It might mean be the reason t...

Swing Keel Access, Cable or Rope, Termination Type
I purchased a 1998 26X a few years ago and in the first summer the cable to the swing keel released when I was under power in some larger waves. I put the boat on a lift and replaced the cable (which appeared to have been simply looped around a bolt through the keel) with a crimped terminal at the s...

Re: Signifcant difference between 50 & 60 HP outboard?
I take my 98x up to 16 knots or so with the original Yamaha 50 four stroke with no real effort (even in a medium seas). I don't find a lot of difference in speed with loaded or unloaded, I do notice that extra weight in the bow really helps achieve higher speeds (on calmer days). With the nose down,...

Re: Poor Man's Autopilot - Wheel Brake (?)
Masteb,
I have tried sending you a PM but it doesn't seem to work for me. The email ends up in the outbox, but not the sent folder.
Can you send me one and I can reply to it?
Thanks,

Poor Man's Autopilot - Wheel Brake (?)
I've seen posts from 2008 about a wheel brake (poor man's autopilot) available Kelly Hanson Marine that fit a MacGregor with relatively little work. I called KH Marine last year and they had none left. I followed up this year but it seems like they have closed. Can anyone tell me where I can find it...

Can I Trailer with the Motor down?
The power trim motor on my outboard died and I have to take the boat to the shop to get it replaced. The motor is down and it weighs a ton. Can I bring my 26X onto the trailer and transport it with the motor down or will I have to get extra help to muscle it up? Also, this would be the first time I ...

Re: leak when it rains
I am a new owner of a 99 Mac X and I have been getting a rain water leak on the fiberglas panel, just forward of the transom. The leak seems to be comming from a spot through the fiberglas layers on both sides of the aft collection/drainage bowl. The leak spot is black and runs down the backside of...

Re: Reconnect Centerboard Cable
My cable released when I was under power heading into some 5 foot waves. I had reduced my speed significantly from full (probably less than 50%) and heading into them. I think the ceterboard tried to drop before the boat crested the wave and met the tension of the rope then released from the weakest...

Re: Reconnect Centerboard Cable
Well I ended up getting my X hauled up in the slings at Thunderbird Marina for a half hour to do the work, which was a great idea. The centerboard had only a screw, locknut and washer left in it. There was no connection to reconnect the cable to. It looked like the initial install (or previous repai...

Reconnect Centerboard Cable
The centerboard cable in the 99x I purchased last year has released. I have a new cable in hand (I opted for it instead of line as would like the repair to me more permanent) but I don’t know how to terminate/reconnect it to the centerboard. I was hoping I could dive under, pass the cable through th...

Re: 26X Floor Dimensions and Cabin Wood
Thanks for responses. The leaks were on my to do list. I have already purchased the 3M adhestive from BWY with other gear to repair the "wear and tear' from the previous owners. The floowboards are pre finished tongue and groove solid teak boards (2 1/2" wide x 5/8" thick and various ...

26X Floor Dimensions and Cabin Wood
We bought a '98X last summer and want to add wood flooring and also change out the plexiglass (table and head door) for wood. I have measured the floor (including the diagonals) myself and created detailed drawings in Google Sketch-up but I am not certain that the dimensions I have will provide the ...

Downrigger Mounts (Gimbal, Swivel or Other)?
I recently bought a 26X and want to install two downriggers. I am reluctant to use clamping systems for a couple reasons, so I am looking at a fixed install. Can anyone help me decide between a gimbal and a swivel mount? I like the gimbal mount because everything can be taken away, but I am not sure...
