I forgot to mention, if you click on the thumbnail pic that appears you'll see a different view showing a good close-up.

Re: bow thrusters
I’ve used this mod to great satisfaction for over a decade: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=156. Many years ago I added a wrist-worn wireless remote control. It’s one of my three favorite mods.

Re: "Sub $600 Autopilot" Progress
Eric H., jesting aside, an AP Mac Fund seems to make some sense. For some it takes a village. For others a flotilla.

Re: Backing up 26X into a tight slip!
Or install one of these: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=156. Click on the thumbnail pic and you'll see a close up view. Since I posted this a dozen years ago I've lost count of how many times it's come in useful. And especially since MinnKota came out with a wireless remote cont...

Re: MacGregor 26X for Mississippi River Use
Gater Dunn, here's the link to the description in the mod section - http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=156. If you click on the thumbnail pic you'll see a different pic of a close-up. It's an old mod, and since then MinnKota has come out with a wireless remote control for all basic ...

Re: MacGregor 26X for Mississippi River Use
Sailmgb, I agree, the 26X is perfect for Mississippi River travel. I live at MM800, not far upriver from lock #3. A decade ago I extensively researched boat alternatives and would still conclude, as I did then, the X is the best choice for many reasons. A coupla observations. Go no smaller than a 50...

Where in the world is...
Yesterday I started a thread thanking those who provide informative and useful mod posts, and suggesting there's room for improvement regarding posts that lack a picture and are otherwise not really informative. It was titled, “Thanks,… and No thanks.” Some interesting responses appeared from others...

Where in the world are My Mods?
When I log in and click on "My Mods" from the Mac Mods drop down menu none of the nine I've posted in the long ago past show up. Is that because I originally posted them back in '01-'02 before this site was re-worked? I'm able to view them when I do a search, so I know they're on the site.

Consider stabilizing the overhang of the mast this way in a mod I did several years ago:

Re: synthetic teak
A couple of years ago I had a vendor in MI do a custom weave for my cockpit floor using strips of this (or something similar). It looks good and has held up well, but it's rather hot on bare feet. Seems to really hold the sun's heat.

When you click the link below to see my version of coping with your concern be sure to click on the thumbnail pic after you arrive. It leads to a couple of different views of the mod.

Re: Blocks on stanchions ok?
Restless, I've visited your mod pics and am impressed with your creativity. But I didn't see any pics of the brackets you mentioned. If you get a chance can you post something showing how you guide your lines back to the cockpit?

Blocks on stanchions ok?
After 10 years with my 26X I’m finally running lines all the way aft to stern corners a la John Tiede's mod http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=60. I’m also running the main halyard all the way back. I’d like to keep the main halyard outside my full enclosure until reaching the very ...

Re: Backup outboard motor?
For many years I've used a trolling motor on a bow mount I designed described in the following mod link: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=156 Since my original post MinnKota came out with a wireless remote control I wear on my wrist that greatly improves operating the unit (no nee...

Re: Ports in bow that open (Opening Portlights)
Thanks all for the words of fear, caution & alternatives. They've occurred to me as well since I've been muddling over the idea for several months. Not to beg the question though, I'm looking for the wisdom of anybody who has actually done such an installation. Nice Aft, have you posted your eff...
